I'm scheduled for my VSG in September and have only come out and told one co-worker who is actually very supportive and was sleeved years ago. The others (inluding one who is having a band to VSG revision in Oct) have pretty much guessed that I am either deep in the contemplation phase or am scheduled and they are being a bit catty, saying amongst themselves "She won't be able to do it, she eats all the time", ""She thinks it will be easy but it isn't", "She's going to Mexico because she doesn't really need the surgery" and the like. I know, blow it off and chalk it up to people just being catty -- which is what I plan to do. But, why does it seem that weight loss surgery is a topic people can be just so darn vicious about? I've heard more stories about cattiness in regard to WLS than breast augmentation!

In my experience people will be catty about weight no matter how you try to lose it. Its really bad at my office too. There are a couple of diet dr's in town and every time someone starts going to one people start whispering and betting on how long it will last, same thing for weight watchers, going for walks on breaks, etc. One of my coworkers had a bypass a few years ago and everyone is constantly watching her and ridiculing her for what she eats and when she puts weight back on (which is why I'm not telling anyone at my work). But yeah, I think people are even meaner about the surgery because they are aholes, no not really, but because people like to share the bad stories more than the good ones, people tend to feed on negativity, I hadn't heard a single surgery success story until I started researching it for myself, all I've ever heard is how bad it is and how everyone gains the weight back.

Anyway, for some reason females feel the need to put each other down instead of lift each other up. It's like some feel like they are entitled to being judgmental jerks for some reason.

Hold your head up and prove them wrong. ;)

I haven't had a lot of negative feedback, but I think what it boils down to is ignorance and jealousy. Your best revenge is to be a fabulous success so be a compliant patient, do what you're supposed to do and BE FABULOUS!

I just wish they'd keep it to themselves at work. Talk about me, talk about it all you want, but do it where I can't and won't hear. Makes me wonder if I should have just announced the VSG instead of only mentioning the minor plastics work I'm having done for something entirely unrelated. I totally expected the negativity if they discovered I was having the VSG done in Mexico but not the negativity over/about the procedure itself. Guess it makes some people feel better about themselves if they can belittle others. That's sad because I really like these people and I love working with them.

It kind of sounds like the one who you did trust to tell told the others. I wouldn't talk to any of them about it anymore and let them be bitter and jealous. People will always try to bring you down, don't even feed their fire by telling them and talking to them about it. That is possibly part of why they are acting like this if they do know you told the one person and not them, possibly a bit put out you didn't trust them too... but it is obvious you were right not to!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
