Hello, so sorry you are having troubles. I was sleeved on May 16 and I was not ready for any type of solid food at 6 days. (I'm just now almost 6 weeks out and barely ready for solid foods). I didn't even try mashed potatoes until the 3rd or 4 week. You need to stay on liquids - but not Clear Liquids. Clear Liquids do not satisfy your hunger. They just provide fluids for you. I drank a Protein shake each day. Ensure High Protein shakes (available at your regular grocery store). I like the milk chocolate best. It's so very yummy! I drank 1/2 shake at a time because these are 16 oz. shakes. But, also, I made onion Soup, potato Soup, chicken noodle soup, and put them all in the blender so no chunks were left at all. Chunks are what will hurt your stomach at this point. The taste is completely normal for these items and they satisfy your hunger. I lived on these Soups and Protein Shakes for 2 full weeks, and I can honestly say I was not hungry....or should I say I got hungry only when it was time to eat again, which was every 2 hours. I only ate 3-4 bites worth at a time, which was about 1/4 cup. But, that's all I wanted and it definitely satisfied my hunger. When I got hungry again, I ate more soup or drank a portion of another Protein Shake.

Hang in there! The worst is over! Hope this helps!!!

Mnkj719416 Hope you're doing better by now? I was also sleeved 6/18 and went through the same extreme hunger feeling till FINALLY it subsided. I was clear liquids only until day 5, now full liquids for 2 weeks. I agree with what someone said, it's much better when you get to " full liquids". I also feel like our bodies take a while to "convert" to liquids only. Anyway please update me on how you're feeling.

Well I've only lost 7 since our surgery date, if that puts it in perspective. I know what you mean about food lust. Meanwhile my hubby is scheduled for sleeve next week and is currently having all his "food funerals"...having to see it and smell it all is TORTURE.

2 weeks, or wow, a month(!) on liquid pre op..That's a major accomplishment all in itself. I guess that's one area where I lucked out. I had to do a program to lose 10% to qualify, but only had to do one day liquids pre-op. Is your sister on here? That's awesome, to go through it together. Maybe I can get my sis on board one day.

I had my sleeve done last November and the first month is long but as you settle in to the sleeve and get used to eating very small portions you can eat almost anything. If I want something very bad I will take a bite and be done with it . but I tend to eat normal foods now just waaaaayyyy less. Just one thing about me when I went into this I new I would not follow the sugar free diet but I am learning to choose healthier options and I'm down 68 lbs now and have about 15 to 20 lbs more to go. I feel much better now and that was my ultimate goal. So hang in there and take it one day at a time for now. Try and stick to the full liquids then the pureed foods and then the soft foods for as long as necessary so things heal properly you have the rest of your life to eat food in its normal texture. Welcome to the losers bench. Lynnette

I have read on here that sometimes hunger is really acid pain disguised. Other posters have mentioned an OTC acid reducer - maybe that's an option?

I went for a follow up visit today and my dr said that every year there is always a couple of people that still have the hungry feeling. she said as I start putting more solids in I should feel more full amd not get hungry so fast.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
