I applaud you for going back to the doctor. At my doctor's support group last week we talked about how people are embarrassed to come back if they have gained some and the doctor said he LOVES when people come back and he can help them get back on track. They WANT you to be successful!

I hope the best for you!

You can do this!!! You going back to the doctor and asking for help is the first step! I'm just starting out, but I know that I'll probably slip sometime down the road, but I have to keep my eye on the prize and remember all the sacrifices involved. Keep the faith, you'll be right back on track. Best of luck to you and God bless :)

You've taken the first big step in going back to your doctor.

Trucking making it very difficult to eat right, but if you plan ahead, you CAN do it! Bring a cooler with some cheese sticks, greek yogurt, maybe the mixings for Protein Shakes. If you have to eat at a restaurant, choose veggies and Protein. Drink lots of Water. Walk whenever you can, whether it's while waiting to get loaded/unloaded, or before crawling into the bunk for the night.

You didn't go through major surgery to slip backwards.... move forward, and think positive! You can do this!!!

I am still pre surgery but I know one of the things I have to do is get rid of "All or nothing" thinking. I have chronic illnesses so when I "mess up" (don't walk as much as I want, eat bad, etc.) I tend to say "F*ck it" and stop walking all together or eat garbage for a month or two. I'm trying to deal with that before surgery. Sigh. Good luck to you. I think the first step isn't the hardest, it's the first step after things go wrong!

I had a similar experience. At about 8 months post op I really started to struggle emotionally and it was reflecting in my eating again. I began to let bad habits and emotional eating back in. I realized what you said, that I had done the physical work, but I hadn't done any emotional work. For me, I really started to dig in and try to figure out what was behind my compulsive over-eating that led me to obesity in the first place. If you are able, a therapist that deals with bariatric or eating disorder patients might be worth looking into. I started working with one, and it has been life-changing. If you are not ready to take that step, I highly recommend the book "when food is love". It helped me start to untangle the really complicated relationship between emotions and eating.

This is really insightful. I think it's great that you recognize that even before surgery. That is something I definitely struggle with. I think you are going to be very successful! :-)

Great advice with therapy. .I'm in a better place now then ever...2 yrs of therapy helped tremendously. ..sometimes we have to differentiate between a true hunger feeling, emotional eating for comfort or we are just addicted to food. Great thought! Helped me to...:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
