Stuck and in pain...Feeling so discouraged. Need Support!

Recommended Posts

I have so much pain on my left side more than 4 weeks out. Went to the doc last week. Had an upper GI anc blood test. Ruled out leak and infection. But the pain is still unbearable. I couldn't return to work as scheduled. :( back on Narcotics.

And to top that all, I have only lost 10 pounds so far since surgery. So sad and depressed!

Any ideas for managing pain? PLEASE HELP!

I am so sorry. Did your Dr. have any suggestions or explanations? I had my surgery on may 29th and am out of my pain meds but am still in a ton of pain. I had to return to work a week after surgery. If the pain doesn't subside I am going to have to call to see about getting more. How long have others been on pain medications?

I am 3 weeks out and only needed pain meds for a week and half. I did start again a couple of days ago because i have pain above my large incision. I hear its just part of healing, but whew it hurts

I'm 6 days post-op and started this AM with a sharp pain in left side. It's not constant, so I think that it is just some scar tissue forming & pulling at the interior surgical site. I'm hoping it will pass. Up until now, I only used pain meds the first 3 days. I don't want to start them up again, so I will use liquid adult Tylenol as needed. Most of my research seems to show more pain on the left side due to the larger instrument is inserted on this side for laparoscopic procedures.

Hang in there and pray that it passes soon.

In my case, everything has been ruled out! Doctor thinks this is just muscular pain due to the fact that I have previous scar tissue from hysterectomy coupled with this recovery. I had a harder time than normal recovering from that to. I talked to him today and he wanted me to go out and walk no matter what. I walked for a few minutes and it seemed to help at least in uplifting my spirits. I had stopped doing that last week when the pain got worse. I have to remember that walking helps with healing! Thank you!

I was off pain meds when I came back home from hospital. Only used Tylenol for a couple of days as needed. However, I have been put back on Tramadol as of last week. I am hoping to stop taking that soon because I do not do well with narcotics.

I am hoping that the healing is done soon for all of suffering. :(

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
