I am having trouble getting to my Protein quota set by my doctor; at least 75-85 grams per day. I have been mixing Protein Powder with Protein Drinks just to get more in the mornings...but, boy oh boy, the calories add up. My morning routine comes to about 516 calories. That's one serving of Chobani yogurt with 1 packet of unflavored protein power and one Lean Body Protein Shake with one packet of unflavored protein powder. Those three items add up to more than half of the 800 calories I've been trying to stick to as advised for these first few months. I also take a handful of Vitamins which must be worth at least 5-10 calories each.

Wondering if anyone knows anything about GENEPRO Genetic Tri-Protein Peptide. It says it contains 30 grams of protein (instanized peptide whey, hydrolyzed whey, and genetic hexapeptide protein.

Is this the kind of protein I want and need? One thing nice is that the serving size (one scoop) is much smaller than the packets like Unjury or Jarrrow Formulas, which I have been using. Plus it's only got 15mg of sodium. But is it the "right kind" of protein????

Thanks to anyone who can whey in on this topic :)

Evening!

LindaLue There is a "wing" on one floor that is just for bariatric patients. Good and bad in that - everyone is in the same boat so you will have company as you walk the floor - when you get to the nurses station you can "go around the block" so it isn't totally a straight shot back and forth. Getting to the right place is a little weird when you sign in - you go downstairs which just struck me as odd for some reason - probably because the video, etc. don't really show that part.

Marybeth - are you sure you should be having that much Protein already? I got "hollered" at when I tried to get in my 60 at 5 weeks out. My instructions said to try to work my way up to 30 grams for the first three months, up to 40 by 6 months and up to 60 thereafter. I'm already at about 50 but it's hard unless you drink heavy duty protein shakes...and I wasn't even supposed to drink those for the first couple of weeks. Now that I've done sounded all "naggy", let me say that I personally say, drink what's comfortable but don't be surprised when the hair stars falling out. I'm glad I had thick hair to start - I can't imagine how it is when your hair is thin. I have a co-worker who just had the Roux en Y done and her hair is fine and thin so I'm a little concerned about how much she will have left until is stats to grow back in again. Thankfully mine is starting to grow in again but it's so short so far that it still seems much thinner. As for the type, I was told to go for the ones like Isopure (the protein source is whey protein isolate). I personally use the Labrada Lean Body brand but add some of the unflavored Isopure to it so that I get more protein (and since I don't really like the unflavored stuff added to non-dairy drinks it works out well).

Go4itLori - welcome to the party! We have a couple of fworking on getting us a meeting place for next month and hopefully we will be hearing from them soon.

On a personal note - I finally lost those couple of pounds I picked up there for a bit. Let me say that snacking is very bad for me - it seems to take nothing to show up on the scale. I can't remember what they called it - inattentive eating or something like that. It is my number 1 biggest problem - I don't notice when I go for the snack and I really should go for a sip of Water instead. oh yeah, and I may be able to drink water again pretty soon. I find that I can drink my sassafras tea with no pain! This is very much a step in the right direction and I can just tell that there will be ice cold water in my future...and not just from it being winter!

Later!

Tyra

Had an awesome meeting with a wonderful dietitian today...3.5 hours. She showed me where I was doing things incorrectly and did cut back a little on my Protein to around 70 grams, but that includes food protein not just shakes and powders. She also explained the whole fat to sugar cycle once the body figures out you're not actually starving it. That's one of the main reasons for the 3-4 week stall. Got probably the kind of good info you all got during the 4-6 month process that is involved here in the U.S. I'd recommend the Mexico route to anyone just for the level of care and of course for the price, but I had always planned to see a nutritionist after I got back. Got so much great info on Vitamins, minerals, and the food and bottled sources for each. Guess Vitamin D and K are getting much better attention by the Medical community, so she upped my dosage of that. Also upped my Calcium intake a bit more. Plus now I have a Vitamin schedule that has me getting better absorption of each. Very, very educational!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
