I wish I would have started to cut back before surgery I'm about 2-3 per day I work in a hospital and its essential. I was sleeved on May 20th and have been having caffeine withdrawal headaches. Yesterday was my one week follow up with my surgeon. I asked the dietician and she said she recommends to wait for at least two months because the caffeine may cause ulcers. It is hard she did say that other people have used caffeine before the two months and they were okay but its no way to tell who may be affected by caffeine. So I have to deal with these headaches and hope they stop. I am so looking forward to the 8 weeks/2months where I can have my coffee again.

How does the whole coffee thing work with surgery? I am a fiend.y surgery is 6/11 and I was wondering if I should start cutting back now? I drink between 4-6 cups a day Alot I know! Wanted to get some input thanks!

I would start cutting back as soon as possible. I only drank 2 cups a day and had Migraines from withdrawl when I first started weaning myself off of it. I thought 'it's only 2 cups-let's do this cold turkey!'. Nope. You're already gonna feel like crap after surgery-the last thing you want is to add to it. I started out cutting my coffee in half and then cut it ounce by ounce. Then I switched to tea...now I'm used to not having it. Best of luck on your surgery!

Oh my, I don't know how I'm going to do it. I wake up at 4:15 each day with only 4 hours of sleep. I NEED coffee, at least when I go to work. The days I don't wake up so early Sat - Tuesday I don't drink it but I am sure going to miss it for two months.

I'm glad you posted this because I was wondering the same thing and was going to post something about coffee myself. Thanks and good luck.

I started drinking Decaf a few days after surgery, then real coffee again (the leaded stuff, no decaf! :D) at about 5-6 weeks.

I'm a little over a year out and I now drink about 6-8...sometimes 10 cups a day. Splenda, a little Hershey's cocoa powder and/or sugar-free vanilla Coffee-Mate. I know, I know...that's a lot of coffee and it's really bad for me and my heart will probably explode and it affects global warming and...whatever! I enjoy it and thus far it hasn't had a negative impact, so I'm drinkin' it! :P

Some folks tolerate it fine and others have issues.

Good luck and Godspeed on your journey!

I just saw my nutritionist this morning, and as she was going over my food diary, she made mention of my abundance of coffee.

She suggested to start drinking 1/2 regular and 1/2 Decaf, and still be able to have the two big mugs I have in the morning.

My coffee time has always been in the mornings when I get ready for the day. Once in a while, I'll have some in the afternoon, but because it effects my sleep, I try really hard not to indulge. I'm going to try it "her" way tomorrow, and I'll try and be optimistic that this will help me in the long run to get ready for surgery in the fall.

I cut back to two cups over the course of a day prior to surgery. Prior to that, I was easily drinking a pot a day. Post surgery? I just haven't felt like regular coffee. I do drink Chike coffee Protein, which is more frappucino than coffee. It takes care of the withdrawal headaches. Coming into summer though, I always seem to cut back on coffee. I guess it was a good time of year for my surgery :D

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
