How Long Did You Feel Sick

Recommended Posts

I Am almost 4 weeks out. I am still on full liquids because I can't stomach mushy. I feel sick to my stomach all the time, not hungry at all, and starting to get very depressed. I don't want to live with this feeling the rest of my life. I am on Pepcid twice a day and I had a hernia repair. My dr says it just takes some people longer but most of what I read is the other way around, people feeling better after 2 weeks. I tried to go back to work but couldn't do it.

I am 7 weeks out and honestly it took me about 5-6 weeks to feel better, I took 3 weeks off work and that was okay, I can tell you it will get better but yeah it did take a while for me and I went thru the whole this was a waste of time thing but it's slowly getting better , I wish u well :-)

I felt miserable the first week and then gradually began to feel overall better each consecutive week. I am 8 months post op and there are still days where everything I eat makes me feel sick. Most days I'm great and if I'm careful with what I eat I'm usually fine, but it's largely about knowing what your stomach can handle, which at 5 weeks you're just beginning to experience. I promise you will not be miserable forever. :) I thought I had ruined my life right after surgery and now I am very happy with the decision. Hope you feel better soon!

Laurie, some people have the best journey with their sleeve, no issues what so ever and others like me still wake up feeling blah. I do feel better now at 4.5 mths than what I did at 1 mth, but everyone is different. My doc told me that things could take 6-12 mths to really settle down, I am very hard on myself for not feeling good everyday but we have to remember that this is major surgery and not every body reacts the same way. I know how depressing it can be but we just have to take each day as it comes :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
