Going for surgery on 29th May - bit nervous now. Not worried about the surgery, that can't happen quick enough. I'm just a little concerned that I may mess up after surgery. Did anyone else feel like this? Have read some post's and it seems everybody has a different experience. Guess I would just like some moral (or immoral) support from those in the know. Thank you.

I'm in the 29th too. I'm nervous of failing. I'm nervous for the pain and nauseous afterwards. I'm expecting the worst and hoping for the best. Do you have a surgery time yet?

I don't see why you would fail--- from what I have read it is a safe, *effective* tool for losing weight. You've made a good decision for yourself and are now ready to reap the reward.

Everyone one worries about messing up after surgery. If they say otherwise they are fibbing....Common feelings and a good thought to keep in the back of your mind as you proceed to change the way you see food.....Take the time to fix your thinking and the body will follow....That is the key to all of it....except the work you will do to get there and stay there.....

Soon you will be in the losers circle...Can't wait for you to start your journey!!!! :)

Hello Swedishfish and Beaglelover - thank you for your replies. I am not so worried about pain and nausea, I'm really sure that the hospital will take care of that for us. The fear of not using the op correctly as a tool is my problem. However as you say there is no more reason for me, or us to fail if we follow the plan. I will be thinking of you on the 29th, my surgery is in the afternoon.

Thank you both for repling so quickley. Only 3 family members know about this at present. They are really supportive but it is really good to talk to people in the know. Hope all is going well for you Beaglelover.

2 weeks post op, my experience to date has been immediately post op and most of next day felt ridiculously nauseous - like really bad motion sickness - second day felt fine, no wound pain and no vomiting. What I felt over the first week, was just very tired and a sense of panic that I wasn't drinking enough and/or taking enough "food" in, the reality is you have more than enough fat to lifve off, you're not not going to die lol.

I also felt surprisingly hungry, it seems that gherlin takes a little while to leave your system - 2nd week this has disappeared - I also felt a despaired need to chew something - this resulted in me chewing celery and spitting it out before swallowing, weird I know.

Try and get active as soon as possible, get walking, apart from anything else it gives you something to focus on and although I took 2nd week off I'm not sure i shouldn't have gone back to work - it's way to easy to just focus on what you have or haven't drunk or eaten with no any distractions.

Also discovering this is so much a head game, you body won't allow you to cheat but you need to start getting your head in order.

Hope that helps, and good luck

I had surgery about 2-1/2 months ago and feel so fantastic. I did prepare myself 6 months prior to surgery though. Not sure how much time each of you have had to mentally and physically prepare, but that is really a big part of your post op success.

Researching, Going to support groups, talking to others with same experiences, reading all information from surgeon with supplements, food regiments. There will be doubt before surgery of your after success, but if you are completely committed to taking care of yourself, it will become a habit and second nature for you. At this time, post op, I am in such a routine of food and activity, I very seldom think about what I must do now.. I just do it and it works..

Good Luck..

I had the same questions as you before I got started.. Very normal for most of us.

Hi Mollsy

I just had my procedure, 13th May, and I went into surgery without a worry. I was waiting for anxiety to kick in, and it never happened. I had done my research, got support from here, discussed all my, well not worries, but questions with my specialist nurse and was ready. But at the back of my mind I was sort of drifting. I knew intellectually what the process would mean, but sort of couldn't believe it would work. When I woke up, yes I could see and feel it had been done, but was it gonna work? My daughter had had the same procedure and had been left with not wanting to eat, because she didn't feel hungry. So I thought maybe I would be the same. Well, for the first four days I did... But that was good as I had an infection, so I was asked to have just Water whilst they investigated. I also felt comfort because of that. Got the all clear and was sent home and started to introduce puréed foods. Then it kicked in. What if it doesn't work? What if I eat too much? What if I stretch my stomach? What if I start all my bad habits again? This was because I started to enjoy food, after two weeks on the milk diet and four days just Water. Also I think because of years of dieting and falling off the wagon I expected the same to happen. So, a few days after I got home I went to see a doctor at my surgery, at the end she put me on the scales. Usually I would think, ohhhh, but I must admit I was a little curious, and I had lost 11lb in ten days.

I am too thinking I don't wanna mess up, but I've turned that into a positive. I went to look in the fridge yesterday, for no real reason, and it popped in my head, I don't wanna mess up. I'm sure you'll be fine, I also realise that I'm in my early days. But read on here all the Success Stories. Also have a look at the 'before and after pictures' they are inspiring. If they can do it, so can we..............

Hello to everyone out that. Your replies are all really reassuring. It's really good to know we are all the same.

I've just had a wobble this morning and my husband was a bit weird, he has been really supportive. Problem is he is severely disabled with MS and post CA. I am is principle carer. I think I have just realised that I'm not going to be able to just come home post op as if nothing has happened, thats where my worry of failure is coming from I think. I know it sounds silly but I hadn't really thought about this as i was so excited atthe thought of a new life. I'm concerned about How I will manage things if I can't run around as normal.(We do have some help by the way). I guess it's just the jitters. We are both really excited at the prospect of me getting back to being myself again after a long absence. Sorry to waffle.

Anywho enough of me, I will probably be going down to theatre at about the same time as you swedishfish - so a shared experience all round!

Have a good day all, and thank you all for your support.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
