Looking forward to time off after surgery

Recommended Posts

My job is so busy right now - I'm finding that I'm looking forward to my surgery time off!

Especially because there's so much I want to read and think about in terms of planning for success with the sleeve - I can't wait to have uninterrupted time to do that.

Is that crazy? Anyone out there who actually enjoyed the time off? As opposed to just not feeling great and wanting to be back to normal life and eating solids etc...

I'm looking forward to it as well. At first I felt guilty, but I know that I need to do this for my health and that's more important than what's going on in the office. I told them that I'll be off between two and four weeks. I am personally aiming for three, but I won't feel bad if I take the fourth week.

The hospital gave me 2 months, they usually give 3, but I refused. I miss my students too much. I

am enjoying my time off, but can't wait to go back to work at this point. A few more weeks to go.

Wow - I'm jealous of you two! My surgeon advised 2 weeks off. That still feels like a long time to me...

I'm with you knitlil09 - I was feeling guilty or worried about taking time off - now I feel entitled to take time to take care of myself (for a change).

Shelly75 - as a teacher you're probably on your feet and more physically active than most, so I suppose that makes sense to take more time - that seems much longer than most though! Glad you were able to make it work!

Wow - that's fast Par1959! Amazing what a range there is...

I like my job too, but it's very all-consuming. I just look forward to checking out for a bit and making me and sleeve my number 1 priority.

From what I understand my Dr says 2 weeks. I really would like to have 3. Reason - - - so I am really feeling well and have my Protein and Water on a schedule. My job is not physical but very stressful. I am afraid I will not get all of my eating and drinking in.. Bottom line I am going to do whatever it takes.

I am taking 6 weeks off and I am going to enjoy every bit of it. It is very busy and very fast paced. I will need the time to adjust to my new lifestyle... mentally and physically. I have given so much to everyone else and it is time I give back to ME! Looking forward to being selfish. Crazy right?!?

I didn't miss work but I wouldn't say I enjoyed my time off. I felt tired and crappy a lot.

No I really can't say I enjoyed it. I needed every single day off that I had. And I'm really glad I didn't have to be around people and their food smells while I was on puree.

But no, no enjoyment really. Just healing.

I only took 4 days off from work and then had the weekend to recover. I would have loved to have been off work but I didn't really need it. Being at work helped me keep my mind off of food and the routine helped me get into the groove of eating and drinking on a schedule. I saved my leave for later....I'm going to Greece in July and will enjoy that time off a whole lot more than sitting around the house. Everyone is different, everyone heals at a different rate so we all have to do what is best for ourselves. This is not a one size fits all kind of progress, right folks?

I was very much looking forward to my two weeks off. Unfortunately it turned into only 1 week off. I am partners in a mobile vet practice, so when the calls come in we go out....

And even in that 1 week off I only got to relax and enjoy the time off for 1 day. The other 6 were spent shopping, flying, driving and plowing snow. Still waiting for that vacation....

Everyone's situation will absolutely differ. Call me crazy when I say I will enjoy this experience regardless - I get to finally do something for myself without worrying about anyone else. I am a manager so all day I am responsible and accountable for everyone else. I will use this time and dedicate my attention to only me.

I think my problem is that I am so used to doing everything and being there for everyone that it is very difficult for me to not be able to help and to do things. Maybe if I could have kind of had my time off in a little house by myself I would have enjoyed it more? But when you have a child and there are things going on that you just can't do, well I felt guilty for not being able to do what I usually do. It all worked out and my daughter actually adapted really well and was very compassionate towards me.

I think it's a mom thing!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
