Losing lbs but not pant size

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 4/28/14

Pw 217

Sw 207

2 week post sw199

I have lost lbs, but my pants around my waist feels the same. I have always had a problem with losing my tummy:(. I also am not regular, so I'm not sure if this is why my tummy might not be going down. I am on soft foods and tolerating them well. I only drink Water and get 50-60oz daily. I walk daily. Any help or suggestions would be great.

I started out with a 53" waist. It wasn't until I lost 40 pounds that my waist started to respond. I am one of those people that loses fron the top down. At 57 pounds down, I am finally get a discernable waist. This morning it measured 41" So what a difference the next 27 pounds made. It just takes time and patience.

Like Miss Mac, it wasn't until I was 40 pounds down before I was able to change pant sizes. But let me share something I read on here awhile ago, which I know was true for me.

My pants (and most clothes) didn't really fit me properly. When I was wearing a 40 pant, I most likely should have been wearing a 42, but I would suck everything in and squeeze into my clothes. So, while I was not able to go down in pant size, the pants did fit me better, but my expectations were bigger than my reality, so it just seemed like I wasn't getting smaller, but in truth, I was.

Once I did, though, my sizes seemed to drop rapidly as I was now wanting to wear clothes that fit properly.

I'm glad to see this post. I'm down almost 70lbs and still wearing the same clothes I was the a week pre-op, and that made me…not sad… but non plussed.

I refuse to get anything new right now. But there's definitely a change in how things fit me. Like PdxMan said, I was just squishing myself into clothes that were too small. Then they fit "normal". Now they are getting a little loose.

And @@healthymommy, I too find that my tummy is being stubborn. I have pants in the closet that should fit me at this weight, but are still too tight. In my case, it was because I had put on so much weight that everything stretched out, and it hasn't quite caught up yet. I know that I'll get there, and I look forward to posting pics of me in these pants.

So just stay focused and keep doing what you're doing. You'll get there. :)

Be well…

This is an excellent point. My clothes pre-op varied from 16-18W in pants and 1-2X in tops. Looking back, it's pretty obvious that I *was* a 16W-18W at the minimum. So it was a little surprising to me at first that I could wear a certain pair of size 16 jeans for a very long time. There was about a month or two of them fitting more like they were supposed to, followed by about a month of them really being too big (while I also wore some size 14s.) Looking back it seems like this took forever but it was really only two-three months.

I'm currently in sizes 10-14 (depending on cut and style) but the size 14s that I still wear are cut very small. Either way you look at it, 60 pounds/7 months is equal to at least 3 sizes down, probably more like 4 or 5. Patience!

I have just recently went down in pant size with a budge on the scale. I guess everyone is different- at first right after surgery I think my stomach was sollen from the procedure in the hospital. Now I lose weight every couple weeks, and in between I go down in pant size.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
