What did your NUTs or Dr.s say about alcohol? When are you all allowed to have a drink? Recognizing that they are empty calories, etc, I do like an occasional glass of wine. Just curious what everyone else's teams have said. Thanks!

IDKY my eye was immediately drawn to your subject line. LOL!

I've heard we should wait a year! Yup, that's what I heard. With that said, I'm 5 months post op band to sleeve revision & I've had a few since then. Not many, but at least 3 or 4 in total.

What I can tell you, beside what you already know about the empty calories..etc.., is that you get tipsy MUCH quicker! it seriously only takes me less than 1/2 cup to feel the effects. I rarely drink, but when I do, woo hoo!!!

LOL, be safe!

My Doc said at 4 months i could have 1oz of red wine - Only wine, nothing else until after a year... i was out with a bunch of friends and asked to have a sample (it came in a small shot glass @ no charge) but my tummy didnt like it... so i waited and had it again at 5 months & all i have is 1-2 oz once in a great while... yes i got tipsy off that little bit... I will say, make sure you messure, cause what you think is 1/2 glass might acutally be 8 or more oz...

My bari program recommends no alcohol for one year after surgery. Like other posters said, you get buzzed really fast, so just be careful.

I was told by my surgeon best to wait a year-- more out of fear of transfer addiction than it damaging the sleeve really.

That said, I have indulged in some red wine or even a white russian here or there, I'm just over 3 months out now. No adverse effects that I encountered, but the buzz does hit the head just a little bit quicker than it used to. Not that being a cheap date is a bad thing!

Like many others have said, though-- just be real careful whatever you decide to do. Pay attention to what your sleeve tells you! (even I have trouble heeding that one on occasion...)

The plan I got from my doc said none ever. This is the one area that I didn't listen. I have had drinks since about 6 weeks out. I am a casual drinker so only drink once maybe twice a week. I have had no ill effects and lost plenty of weight along the way.

Last week I did a little experiment and drank every single day. By Sunday I had gained 6 pounds...Ooops. Those 6 pounds were gone by Wednesday. I wont be doing that again anytime soon but it was a fun week... LOL

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
