I want to, but I am afraid

Recommended Posts

I am 4 months post op, and have yet to feel support from those I love. In fact, many things have been said behind my back, things like "she only did it to lose weight","of course, anyone can do it, its the easy way out" & ohh the mockeries that have been made from it.

it really sucks, but when im feeling down I always come on here and read other stories, so I thought maybe its time for me to tell mine. im just afraid, of people judging me.

most people do it because of my age (20) I actually had to request a different anesthetist because when I did my visit her first question to me was "why are you doing this? you are still young, you really dont need this. if teenagers would just get off their butts we wouldnt have this problem in the US. think about what this will do to your body, it is a very serious step." & even after that I still respected her opinion .. until the end of course when she said "i hope this really changes you and whatever underlying issues you have to make this decision" .. I think of it constantly.

I want to be happy, I want to be free .. but I feel like everyone around me wants the opposite. & dont you just love the "you where a better person when you were chubby"

Im afraid of putting my story out there, but you guys all give me strength & hope to be myself. maybe someday i'll have that same courage.

You know what, don't worry about what everyone else says and thinks. You do you. I thought about this surgery when I was 20 and I was too scared. I thought about it for years and finally decided when I was 26 and didn't actually get my surgery until this year when I'm 27. I wasted most of my 20s being overweight. I was active, but I could have done so much more. My husband ran a 5k today and I don't know if I'll ever be able to catch up with him. My only regret is not doing it sooner.

Yes, you made a major life decision very early in life, but you did what was best for you. Be happy about that. You'll find support and love here and with your friends and family in time. And if it's your friends that are saying this stuff, find some new ones. I wish you all the best dear, don't let the jerks get you down.

Only people who have not had the surgery could think this is easy. I didn't have this surgery until I was 50, and I regret not having it when I was younger. I missed out on a lot of living because of my weight.

I'm so sorry you don't have support from loved ones. It is so helpful. I'm glad you reached out here. There are many here who understand and will cheer you on.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
