Paying $325.00 per fill, too much?

Recommended Posts

I had planned on an aftercare doc after I have my surgery in TJ, but when I had the money to pay them for a fill, I found out that their lawyers are deciding on wheather or not to take other docs patients. I called my second choice and low and behold, now they arent seeing other doctors patients. So, the first doctor I came to that would see me I made an appointment with. $325...Fill with no floro, he offered no nutritional advise or even what to eat after a fill. He is 3 hours away from me. I live in Mobile, Al so I can go to Panhandle of Florida, Mississippi or Louisiana. We get cheap airflights from here to Houston, but then I have to stay overnight and a taxi. HELP!!!! I know there has to be someone out there!!!

i can't believe u pay a fortune to get the band and u have to pay for fills to

i live in on. canada and don' t have to. i paid 15,000 plus gst. to get my band and if i have to replace it i have to pay 2500. I can't believe health care is so expensive in the many countries and it isn't always the best.

I have had good care down down here so far and about 5 fills and and a defill.

There is a fill center in Bend, Or. woundn't that be closer for her? Try their website for more info www.fillcentersusa.com

Kaelin... No, I don't believe so. She lives in Astoria, near the coast. Portland would be the closest and she insists on someone that does the fleuroscopy (sp). I believe she now goes all the way to Tacoma or Seatle, I am not sure which. She tries to combine it with business trips for work so her boss pays for gas and hotel. She pays $375.00 and I think that's a lot of money for a little Fluid.

I am really glad I only have to drive about 5 minutes to my doctor's office. After I get all the fills that came with the surgery, he said they will be $160.

I hope I get it right before I have to start paying. He doesn't use floro but he just sticks it once and it's over with in a second.

I had my band in Australia, but live in Canada and found a Dr who unfilled me yesterday, he charges $125 for either filling or unfilling and I will try to claim that on private insurance also. He didn't use a fluro - just poked around and got it first time - I was impressed - I'm gonna send him some wine (know he likes red), probably can afford his own - but it ain't everyday you find someone that doesn't hurt and has a sense of humour.

I am completely self-pay. My fills are $250 plus $119 for Flouro. Yup: $369 a pop! They have always gone smoothly, though, and after 4 fills I am finally at good restriction.

Thanks for all the information. I have this on my list to ask my surgeon. I guess you should never assume things. I did not even think of after care and if this was covered or not? I have my band date for June 7 and my appointment with the surgeon on May 21 and a long list of questions! I find this to be so helpful.

thank you.

My lap band is a package deal. Fills are included for one year after surgery. I can't believe you people are getting ripped off like that!! $300+ for a fill?? that's ridiculous. My surgeons even rotate out and take turns coming to my city once a week to see all their patients here, so we don't have to travel so far. That's why I have chosen to go with them. I'm looking at July.

Ok so here is a question I'm set to be banded on May 18th 07 I assumed also that fills to were included. On lapband solutions website it says that if you self pay 15K your fills are free for a year. Soes this mean that if your insurance covers you have to pay for fills. Does anyone know how much the fills are at Lapband solutions - Houston?

Hey girl,

First never, never assume. ASK! Then you can worry about the rest.

My doctor charges $200.00 for fills in his office, but for fluro it's a whopping $785.00. Ridiculous! Needless to say, I had to get my fill w/o fluro for the time being.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
