So, I take my bariatric multi. I read lots of posts about getting in Iron, how it can help you with energy (which I am still lacking at about 6 weeks) and Hair loss which I am worried about, should I be taking much more? How much is too much? I know there are a lot of people that swear by the iron so any advice can help!

You should not be taking Iron unless it's been prescribed by your doc. You need to have labs drawn to know if you are deficient or not. If you take it and you don't need it, it can be toxic.

If you are taking a multi-Vitamin with Iron I think you are getting your share of Iron. If you aren't taking an iron pill I would suggest waiting till your first blood work to see if you are in need of it.

I am three months out and take no Vitamins. I have no hair loss and I have rocked my blood work. My diet consists of mostly dairy, fruits, and veggies. meats have not been good to me since the surgery so I don't eat too much except in the form of Soups. Oh, and Kashi Pilaf for the added Fiber.

It's not hard to get 60 grams a day if you eat each meal and snack. I'm not going to lie. I don't always get all my Protein but getting all my fluids is a bigger problem for me.

A sample of my menu is as follows:

Breakfast:

4 oz low fat cottage cheese-------13 grams of Protein

1 Dole pineapple fruit cup

Snack

8oz skim milk-------8 grams of protein

lunch

Kashi pizza 1/3---------15 grams of protein

Snack

Strawberries

dinner

6oz Talapia--------32 grams of protein---no way I can finish it

1/4 C Kashi Pilaf----7 grams

any mushy veggie

Dessert

something chocolate like fudgesicle or pudding

Other option I like are Kashi frozen dinners, shrimp, flatout bread with cream cheese or refried Beans

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
