Does anyone have any ideas how to end a weight loss stall? I lost 19 lbs my first week after surgery, but week two I haven't lost a single pound. I've been counting every calorie that I take in and it's less then 500 a day (not by choice I can't drink much).

Don't count the calories - count the Protein. Make sure you are getting your 60+ g (or whatever your doc recommends). Then get your Water in.

I track everything in MFP but I don't even look at that calories, I watch Protein, fat and carbs. Focus on that protein.

Hello,

I am almost 3 weeks post op. I'm stalled at 29lbs lost for over a week now. A friend of mine said I'm not getting enough Protein. I eat scrambled eggs, Greek Yogurt and two Protein shakes daily. I don't know how I'm not getting enough.

I walk for exercise, and my clothes are loose but the number on the scale is not moving.

Advice?

Thanks,

Stacy

I completely know how you feel! I'm stalled at 20 lbs for over a week now and I'm being crazy vigilant of how much protein I get and how much carbs/fat/calories I take in. It's really frustrating.

I am 6 months post op down 68 lbs. I think what helps is the following- #1-Only weigh once a wk, #2-Eat healthy and drink Water #3-Add in a little exercise (even just a 15-30 min walk every other day to start helps). #4-Be happy when you have had a big loss, but just understand you may not have a big loss the next week. #5-Set realistic goals, don't expect to drop 20 lbs every month, it starts off that high and then starts dailing back a bit so just be patient with yourself, play the long game. #6-change habits and recognize stress or emotional eating. #7-Keep a great attitude with how you are doing. Be kind to yourself through the process. It is hard to do!!

I'm 3 1/2 months out and hit a major stall around week 5 until week 8, right after the Dr started me on soft foods. From my experience and what I have read this happens to most people because our body is adjusting, especially after having a big loss. Our bodies are playing catch up. Keep doing what your doing, eat healthy, get in your Protein, and importantly exercise, even if just small walks at first until you can build it up as you get further out. I have since hit a one week stall because I got a severe cold and could barely even function let alone exercise. My main advice is just stick to your plan and guidelines, try not to get upset with yourself (easier said than done I know). The stall will end though as long as you stick with your regulations and plan. Hang in there

I'm so happy to say that after my second long weight loss stall I'm at losing again and am down 43 lbs in less then two months. Anyone stalking out there, just hold on tight because you will start losing again!!!

I didn't read everyone else's posts so I'm probably repeating what they say. The stall that you are having is very normal. I had the same one. You are losing weight every day and it's like a high and then it stops and you feel broken. You're body is freaking out and going into starvation mode. I counted and was getting low calories like you. Do all you can to up your calories. I promise it will make you lose. Dedicate a day to try to hit 800 even if it is hard. My sister told me to eat candy (see I was freaking out)... Don't do that... I threw up very badly from eating Cookies because I thought that was a legit suggestion. Even last week I had a stall.. I'm 4 months out... And I posted on here. Sometimes routine can make it happen so going higher calories one day can encourage your body to go back to losing! Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
