I am 3 months post op and so far i have lost a total of 61 pounds (please while reading this keep in mind i had to go thru with the pre op diet twice because of rescheduling) at any rate. I feel a lot better then i did 3 months ago as i'm sure most of you did, however i just keep thinking the numbers should be lower then what they are... I know we all lose at differrent rates and diets and excercise varies for everyone.

Here is my thing, I walk 2-3 miles a day and have recently started jogging some of that not a lot but some. I do cardio excercises 3x/week, weights training (just sculpting weights) 5x/week, and I ride bike.

I do my very best to eat 3 meals a day, and i constantly struggle with over eating which is getting better, but it's hard to tell when you're full when you weren't hungry to start with. I think one of my biggest things there is because at the same time i had the surgery i quit smoking as well, so i think i'm still trying to fill a little void there as well but over all feel i'm doing pretty good.

HOWEVER, my biggest problem is getting in my Protein.

Yes i know this will help. I have tried many different kinds of Protein powders/drinks and have not found any that i can stomach to drink. Prior to surgery and for part of the liquid diet after i was able to drink the Atkins shakes, but i can't even drink those any longer, and i don't mean i just can't drink it, i mean i'm to the point that if i had to drink them i would just not eat at all... I have recently ordered some of the Unjury unflavored in hopes that it is just the UNFLAVORED.. but i have my reservations there as well, but i really need to find a way to get my protein, so if anyone else is having this problem, and have found a solution Please, i'm begging you to share it. Thanks.

Try logging your meals on MyFitnessPal or the like to keep closer track. Measure your food and only eat that measured amount. Don't worry about feeling full. Concentrate on very high Protein foods like fish. Maybe try some Protein Bars like Quest bars.

And keep searching the various Protein Drinks until you find one you can tolerate. They make the whole getting enough Protein think much more manageable. Examples- Premier Protein Shakes 30grams protein or Isopure Zero carb in the bottles. 20 ounces & 40 grams of protein. ( I usually cut the Isopure 50% with Water for taste) ;)

I am also sick of shakes. I have been able to get in 60-80g of Protein without them. Protein meals and Snacks are all I eat basically. Greek yogurt and light string cheese are good low cal high protein Snacks.

I will say the shakes seem to be more filling if you are struggling with fullness or overeating (which I am also. I am not eating to the point of discomfort but grazing perhaps a bit too much. Seem to get "hungry" often)

I also use my fitness pal to track. It's helping me keep my calorie intake under control since I can't quite trust myself yet.

I'm not an expert here, but if your not getting in your Proteins and calories your body will quit burning in an effort to conserve. Instead of getting Protein from shakes, try Protein Bars and high Protein foods. Like recycled said, measure your food before you sit down to eat so you don't over do it. If your truly hungry later have a high protein snack like a cheese stick, almonds or a tbsp of Peanut Butter. I found that the only Protein Shake I could stomach after surgery is Muscle Milk Lite (20 grams per 8 oz.), chocolate. (the vanilla cream is way to sweet). Good luck

Here's one tip you might keep in mind when it comes to drinking. Sitting around sipping on Water all day or trying to down some Protein Drink that tastes like soap, is next to impossible.

However.......when you are thirsty.....I mean really thirsty, you will drink muddy Water from a puddle in the street. Try doing exercise to the point of heavily sweating. It certainly makes me thirsty and I guzzle the Protein drinks as fast as I can get them down. Just food for thought. ;)

In addition to the above, what about egg whites? 1 egg white is 3.5g Protein. I buy hard boiled ones and throw out the yolks. You could also get egg beaters & scramble some up with some spinach and Tomato. Yum :). Surely 3 months post-op you can move beyond shakes! Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
