I like beer to much to blame it for anything other than the occasional headache, mind you the truth is sore head is my fault.

I gained 30 pounds in 3 months drinking beer in the early 70s due to clinical depression. That was the beginning of my long bout with fat. I weighed 130 pounds before that. Of course, they have finally figured out that depression changes the brain so that one rapidly gains weight. They didn't know that then, so my doc put me on tranquilizers. He said I could take up to 6 a day. Three a day caused me to sleep all day, so I slept a lot. Then I'd drink beer to kill the pain and gained weight. I think the average weight gain is supposed to be about 1 pound a year as we age. So I was at 160 and in the next 30 years I gained more than 1 pound a year though not before I had to take care of mother. I am down to 180 and hope to get to 160 someday, but I no longer drink beer. I drink brandy. Thank God for brandy. It's low cal and very potent.

Hmm, alcohol in moderation shouldnt be a problem, but you can drink too much without being an alcoholic or binge drinker.

My parents were always a glass or two of wine per night drinkers. Both my sisters are too. My youngest sister, right in the middle of young kids loves 5 o'clock, lol. She'd have 2 or 3 wines a night. Hardly binge drinking but too much to be healthy for a woman I think. But since she's fallen into this habit, she's gotten really quite fat. Its deadly calorie wise and I find when I've had a drink or two, suddenly I cant be stuffed cooking dinner and will order pizza instead.

I love a drink, but I dont drink daily, its too concentrated in empty calories when you're trying to lose weight.

Everybody needs a little "Brandi" in their life... haha.

(hence my first name) ha

Yeah, I only drink once a week... maybe sometimes only every other week. Although, I always have a real, good time when I do. I keep it as a "treat" not as an every day thing.

I blame beer for sure. I'm down almost 60 lbs. since January and I was banded just 6 weeks ago.

What is the rule about alcohol after banding? I know no beer, but what about liquor (without pop of course). I have weddings to go too!!!!

I agree I've alway had a few beers after work,I work const. so that's kinda the way it is ,but being 49 yrs. old never really looking at a calorie chart etc. I'm trying to stick to about 1020 cal. per day. just looking at thechart every shows you there is not a lot of room for error (just rambleing) terryr

You can drink, but not too much. Avoid gassy stuff like champagne unless you want to be anti-social because it causes major gas. Still wine is good and, of course, brandy which is based on wine. Also watch for really acidic drinks because they can burn all the way down. But a few glasses of wine or something shouldn't hurt you if you are healed up. Enjoy the weddings! You are going to look really good when you attend them.

Sigh. I attribute the slowdown in my weight loss to my daily 2-3 glasses of wine! I have GOT to stop doing that! I'm trying to limit it to one a night.

I figure I've been taking in about 300-400 calories in wine a day. Not good! I'm still losing, but very very slooooowly.

I am strengthening my resolve right now!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
