25f from SJ getting ready for surgery & super nervous!

Recommended Posts

Im getting ready for surgery this summer and my Dr just informed me that I will also need a second procedure during my operation. I have hiatic hernia (think thats right). Which has been the cause if my discomforts. Im still really nervous, so im looking for a mentor of some type to be my guide and kinda of help me out. What should I expect? Is this normal to feel nervous? My name is Cheryl, im 25yrs old, a professional photographer, married, and I have a beautiful daughter. Im pretty happy with my life besides the fact that about 6 years ago I gave up on taking care of myself. I ate junk junk junk! Last year I started eating clean. Not dieting, just keeping a healthy life style. Its been great! I feel great and more healthy! I even lost some of my junk weight! But, it came to hault. Eating clean and working out just isnt cutting it! This is what I am doing for myself!

Glad you're treating yourself better now and they're going fix you up. Sounds like you have a lot to live for and more, higher quality years! Bravo!!!

I had the same procedure done in jan 14, I can honestly say it's the best thing I have ever done and yes it's totally nomal to feel nervous about having surgery, I was ready to bail out about hr before surgery.

Best of luck to you.

Hi I just had surgery on Tuesday and I was terrified! I'm 21 years old. And I'm still in the 2 week liquid stage so I'm going to be honest in still in discomfort and I'm getting hungry and tired but I'm already down 5.2 pounds! Something I wished someone had told me is this is not an easy procedure and you will be in some pain but it is worth! But it is not something to take lightly this is a big decision!

When they cut me open for surgery they discovered a hiatal hernia on me as well and repaired it really quick, but funny because they and I never i knew I had one prior to surgery. I had no symptoms of it, and was completely unaware. After surgery it did cause a little bit more pain (although in my recovery state I described as pressure I refused to call it pain).

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
