I was sleeved Nov 26, 2013. I was excited to finally get a tool to help me lose weight. My beginning wt at the time surgery was 300lbs. My present wt is 265lbs. Not alot lost n these 5 months for what I was expecting. Now I'm at the point I want to say it must just b meant for me to b a big gurl. I exercise 5 days a week and if I'm not able to make it to the gym I walk to high school and walk their track. I'm being active and TRYING to eat the right foods. There's a lot of foods I don't like but try to put my own twist on them .An example of a days meal Breakfast 2 eggs with P3 portable Protein turkey breast snack mixed in with green onions and almonds on the side. Water to drink. LUNCH-1/2 baked potato with cheese/broccoli on top. Dinner- the other half baked potato with cheese/broccoli on top 3 Snacks per day- 1/3C Trail Mix, Fiber One Trail mix bar, Grapes. I was at a stable at 3 months then started losing. Now I'm trying hard and just not seeing a break through. I even explained my issues to my surgeon and dietitian they seem to think I'm on track. In my mind I should b done lost more than 35lbs. I'm not seeing the 200lb me inside. When I'm starting to feel depressed and wonder did I do the right thing. I went through too much to qualify and pay for the surgery. To b disappointed n my results. If anyone know a different ways/ideas to help me get the protein and scale to move down. I would really appreciate any advice. It's hard when u alone working at this.

Everyone one loses at different rates but looked at your eating plan my first reaction is that it's too high in carbs and not enough Protein. It could be your are just in a stall too. That happens from time to time. How are cloths fitting and have your measurements changed? When the scale isn't moving you have to look for those NSVs!

My first thought is....that's a lot of carbs!! Baked potatoes, trail mix, Fiber one bars...it all adds up. Try eating Protein first and I bet that will help. Looks like the only decent protein you're getting in is Breakfast.

There's not much more exercise to fit in the week if you're doing 4-5 times.

My surgeon told me NOT to exercise after the surgery, so we can let the surgery do its job first. He said when I stall, after losing the expected 60-65% of excess weight, then I should begin exercising to lose the rest.

I've just hit the 70 lb. mark (70% since I needed to lose 100 lbs.), and tonight at my visit he said I should start exercising a little bit--twice a week for 30 minutes, etc. and only to increase when the weight loss stalls again. I plan to do that so I will lose slower but more consistently and work my way up to 4-5 workouts per week.

I am surprised your Nut recommends potatoes in your diet at this stage. Also the amount of food at a meal seems a lot. If I eat 1 egg, I am not able to eat anything else for that meal. I realize every surgeon and Nut have different recommendations. My surgeon encouraged me to stick to Protein shakes 3 times a day when I hit a stall. I have a Protein shake for Breakfast every day, 1/2 cup of food (mainly Protein with low starch veggies) for lunch, 1/4 cup cottage cheese/yogurt for a snack and another Protein Shake for evening meal. I add fruit to the AM shake 3 times a week. It takes me about an hour to drink the shake with fruit so I don't do this every day.

I have avoided bread, Pasta, rice, Cereal, potatoes and corn since the surgery. I do not plan on adding these back into my diet until I hit my goal weight.

I agree with everyone else... Way too many carbs. Two out of three of your meals are potatoes. With cheese. Carbs on top of carbs. Watch that trail mix too! You can munch on that and before you know it, you've eaten 350 calories in trail mix! If you could get another Protein Shake in and get some chicken/turkey/fish in at lunch and at dinner, I bet that scale will start moving faster!

How many calories are you injesting per day. Also what is your targeted Protein count per day. My targets are 80 grams protein per day. 800-900 calories. My fitnesspal is a great tool . I agree with you..... Your weight for 5 months should be more.

Try to aim for 20-25 grams of Protein per meal in low fat or non-fat options. If you have room after eating Protein, eat veggies till almost full, then a small amount of whole grain, starchy veggies, or fruit.

Eliminate full fat cheese and nuts, trail mix and bars. If you need a snack, have protein, not fruit or other foods. If you are craving fruit, have a bite with meals after protein and veggies. Consider calorie free fruity drinks to help fill the urge for fruit. For example, instead of trail mix, have a low fat string cheese wrapped in a slice of lunchmeat. Still hungry? Have some veggies with a dip made from fat free greek yogurt mixed with ranch dressing.

It's crucial you find the low fat, high protein foods you like NOW. You will lean on those more and more as the years go by.

Many may disagree, but I feel 800 calories per day is plenty in the early phases after WLS. Track your calories to see where you are.

And do be sure to drink your 64 oz. or more per day in calorie free fluids.

Best wishes on your journey. It's not the easy way out, but for me it was the way out.

I'm eating up to and no more than 1200 calories per day according to dietitian recommendation. I'm suppose to have 60grams Protein a day. Normally I'm less than that sum days I'm over depends on what I eat. Those are the days when I feel I'm constantly hungry no matter what I eat. Even after a Premier Protein shake. I only drink shakes or Water. Not into juices or fruit juices. Dietitian also recommend I eat English muffin instead of bread.Basically I have a list of food with the protein she told me to just pick foods from the list that I can tolerate. Like for instance chef boyardee lasagna bowl and add cottage cheese for extra protein. I use lose it app to track my calories, protein & exercise. I have noticed certain clothes fit loss that wasn't before. I just feel i should b farther along than i am. Thanks for all the advice and caring Starting tomorrow I will be changing my food choices. Updating my results in week or two.

One more thought, my surgeon told me that eating too much sugar would slow my weight loss. Try eliminating anything with more than 5 grams of sugar per serving. I mean processed sugar, not fruit. This can be surprisingly hard to do because it's in almost everything we buy. Too much salt can also be an issue. The bars and trail mix are the most likely culprits in that regard. Don't give up, you are worth the effort!

My surgeon said the exact same thing about sugar. He said that will almost slow weight loss more than carbs... Essentially, where you find one, you find the other... I am very careful with Protein Bars because the sugar in some is insane!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
