June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Ladies,

I use something called Roux sticks when my gray grows out too fast. You wet it and roll it on your scalp. It covers gray and scalp flesh. I get it at Sally Beauty Supply and it comes in several shades.

Also, ask your doc if you an take Biotin supplements. It's supposed to help prevent Hair loss (or so says my hair dresser!)

Good luck - mine is not shedding yet!

Junies,

I wanted to ask you about your fills. I had my second fill on 8/3 so that I now have 2cc's in a 4cc band. Since then I feel a tightness under my breastbone that feels like indigestion. Are you always aware of the feeling of restriction, even when you're not eating or drinking?

Has anyone been to a lap-band support group yet? Our program has the first band-only support group Tuesday, but it is led by the dietician. This means that probably no one will bring up the topic of cheating or how to get back on track, which is probably what we most need to discuss. I'll give it a try, though.

Heather GREAT to hear from you! I know the feelings you are having, not knowing if the band is working for you, but I really trust that we all did the right thing! We are learning together through the process, and in the end hopefully we will be there, with great weight loss!

02bthin/Serena I am only on my first fill experience, but your explanations all seem to be fill related and may pass as the fill settles? others ahead of me may be able to confirm. I know after I eat, the burping increases, I attribute this to fast eating or eating to much.

Serena my hospital also has a support group for only bandsters. It is next Monday, I plan to attend for the first time next week. It is an hour away and it is a 2 hr meeting. I am not sure who leads it? There are support group meetings all month for different groups. One for all weight loss surgeries, post opt, and pre opt. I think there is one related to nutrition only. Let us know how it goes!

We have a group therapist that leads our group meetings and the nurtritionist takes the 2nd half hour.

Sorry I've been so quiet lately. I'm to the point where "if you don't have anything nice to say (about the band), don't say anything at all."

Heather - I personally would like to hear your not nice experiences, if it is something you would like to share. I think the good and the bad help me with my journey. If there is anything we could do to help you with yours, I am sure us Junies would do it.

I don't but I would like to know. I was thinking we needed to start a Junies pictures thread, so we could see our progress.

Awww! Nice pic.

I want to lose more weight before I post mine. It wouldn't be that noticeable yet.

Am down another two and a half pounds as of today. I was very, very surprised to register a loss. That makes 36.5 (16.6kg) lost since beginning of pre-op diet. Well done me!

Had my third fill today. They only put a smidgeon in this time (0.75ml). I could drink the Water easily this time. They seem to think that I'm almost done or perhaps need one more small fill and I'll be done for 6 months at least. I hope so. I haven't been sliming or PBing but that's a good thing I guess. I've been trying to chew well but am still finding it hard not to drink for at least an hour after meals.

What is everyone's rules on drinking while eating? Mine just said no drinking while eating, but I've seen some that say before and after also....

I Water load (drink lots) up until I'm ready to take my first bite of food... (remove from the table or better yet, don't bring it, if your at a resturant... move it across the table or even ask the server to remove your glass when they bring your plate) then not again until an hour after I've finished eating.

No drinking 30 minutes before, during, and 1 hour after a meal. I find it very hard to get all my fluids in for the day though with that schedule.

I've been doing find from my port revision, (no bruising)--UNTIL TODAY!!! I called the doctor, but he said it's nothing to worry about.

lo2us--I have wanted to join a support group since I got banded. I forget why I missed the June date and I had my port flipped back in July, so I will attend the August meeting next week (Lord, willing...and the creek don't rise)...I'm not sure who leads it or what the topic will be, but I'll let you know.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
