June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Any other midnight shift workers out there? How do you guys cope with eating, etc with the band vs eating regular during your days off?

Hey FarmerE,

I work nights but i have not since my surgery so I do not even want to imagine what its going to be like! I did 5 nights in a row while i was on my 2 week liquids pre op and I had to cheat by drinking pop since I cannot stand the taste of coffee ;) What am I going to do? LOL everyone eats and Snacks on nights but I find that i dont need food just the cafeine. And yea your right our meal schedule will be thrown way off. What are your plans?

LOL....Hello, Suzanne! I'll definitely take you up on the smoothie time. Oh, and not to worry, my bf told me today that she had forgotten about the Clear Liquids day and did fine during surgery. ;) BUT...I don't recommend it. I definitely give everyone here who has to do this longer than one day (like us) some extra respect...you all are amazing!!!

I have a question for anyone who can answer...but it may sound a little personal. Background: My 3 year old DD has had the stomach flu this week and by God's grace I hadn't picked it up from her...yet. Question: I had been required by my surgeon to do one day of clear liquids before surgery (mine is scheduled in 8 hours from now) ... could that cause diahrea? Has anyone else experienced this? It's only been slight...just once and my stomach isn't rumbling like it normally does with the stomach flu...

I don't know whether I need to postpone surgery or not...I'm hoping not. I'd have to wait until at least August.

Yes, I've had diarrhea. Ugh! But its not like 'normal' diarrhea, its just like... liquid. But I did 24 hours of full liquids on Wed, and then clears thurs... so I think the 48 hours of liquids is just now all I have left in my bowel. I also think I read in a post several days or a week or so ago that someone else had this issue.

Tummy feels mighty empty today!! Not a huge issue though, I usually get up at 6am and don't eat until 12 or 1pm. I'll be good. :)

OMGoodness... surgery is in THREE HOURS!!!

Hi all,

i know i joined this thread a couple of weeks ago, but never posted again, sorry about that. I'm usually pretty satisfied to just lurk and read about other's experiences. My pre-op diet is supposed to start tomorrow, and i'm not sure wether i'm supposed to be on full or clear liquids. I got an informational e-mail from the office in which they said full, and then when i talked to somebody else from the office they said clear. I'm trying to figure it out before tomorrow, i don't want to do anything to mess this up. After hearing about so many 14 day clear diets, mine seems really short and i'm not sure wether it's a bad thing or a good thing.

Also, congratulations to everyone who is already banded and thank you for sharing your experiences, it's really helping me and i'm sure everyone else, prepare for the surgery. I'm not sure how nervous i am, i feel fine about the surgery, but i keep on dreaming about it, so i'm sure it's affecting me more than i think it is. Funny thing about the dreams is that in them i always wake up with no pain at all and proceed to eat. A lot. Guess that won't be happening!

Ok, that's all i've got for now, i hope you all have a great day.

Hi Pinky!

I agree I like to just read too! I am retarded and if i do post and noone replies I kinda feel bad so i try not to set myself up for rejection LOL. Good luck on your upcoming surgery! Where are you being banded at? Thats totally funny about your dreams it sounds like something i would do! I was just talking about this yesterday its so bad but i miss that binge part of eating but ill get over it someday i hope! At lunch I see all my coworkers eat these huge plates of food and I think to myself I used to be able to eat more than that! Now its still kinda hard because my eyes are bigger than my stomach so i scoop up way more food than i could possibly eat. Its kinda cool though so i just have to keep thinking that way! Hope you have a great day!

Becky

Suzzzie, I think you're right. I don't feel any other flu symptoms, no fever, so guess it's just normal from the diet. I did mostly liquids on Wednesday...but at dinner time I had a very small portion of the meal I'd cooked for my family. I'd been doing that...liquids for breakfasts and lunches for a week or so now...with a few exceptions.

2 more hours for you!!! 4 1/2 for me! Can't wait!!!

I gotta share this.....I'm so bummed out tonight. I really want to be in the mid 250's when I go for surgery. I thought I would be by now. My weight is not budging one bit since Monday. I've been on antibiotics this week....definitely not constipated. I'm so worried that even with the band I won't lose weight. I am starving on 700 calories and not losing weight? WUWT?

Maybe your body thinks you are starving yourself because you aren't taking in enough calories right now so it is really slowing your metabolism down. Why don't you try maybe 1000 non-fat calories for a few days and see how it goes?

Hey guys, just got back early this morning from being banded. I feel great!!! I didn't have any gas pains to deal with and my tummy is just a little sore. I had an amazing experience. I went to Dr Rodriguez in Mexico. He was wonderful, best bedside manner that i have seen in my 10 years of nursing. The hotel was beautiful!!! The Hospital was clean and had very modern equipment in the rooms. I can't say enough about the hospital and the staff!!! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!! Anyways, I am back and i feeeeel GREAT!!!!! YEAH!!!! I have lost some weight already but bring it on I am ready!!!! :clap2::clap2::clap2:

BeckieT:

I have no idea how I'm going to handle it. Right now I'm cutting out the caffeine prior to surgery but it's killing me come 2-4am! Especially since my squad doesn't do a whole lot. I snack as well but your right, it's mainly for the caffeine or the boredom. ;) Hoping to go to days this next bid....we'll see how it goes. I'm guessing you are a dispatcher too?

I feel terrible that some people post and don't get a reply. It's only because when I (we) get here, there are 50 new posts to read. You might have wanted to respond to post #4 but and #23 but by the time you've read to the end, you're all muddled up. For example, I wanted to remember everybody getting surgery today and wish them well but by the fourth name, I couldn't keep it straight. Don't be disheartened, we're all in this together (even the lurkers, hi guys).

So many people getting their op today. We're thinking of you and insist you report back.

To the young bandster, that nurse was so rude and outta line. She's not very professional. She should keep her opinions out of your earshot, not try to discourage you.

I hope this thread can keep going. Even if some disappear, I sincerely hope everyone heads back this way next June to tell us of your progress. Maybe some will even be at goal!

Insub are you working? How are you feeling a week out? I started back to work today and felt great. One of the ladies in my office that had the gastric bypass a couple years ago, could not beleive I was at work and fine. I do feel great today. No gas, but stomach pain a little!

Thanks for asking Janine. Was stiff and sore and weak (my own fault for carrying shopping bags last night) but I went to work. Didn't get much done. I couldn't concentrate. I *suppose* it was good to go back but I was enjoying the rest so much. Also, I've chosen to tell only one colleague (only 'cos he guessed as his sister got it done the day before I did), so it was hard being evasive about everything with close friends. I'm so glad you did fine.

Hello to all the newbies, congratulations to all the new bandsters and best wishes to those about to be banded.

I'm still doing well. Once the ball was removed I found out why it was there. Ouch...port pain. But it wasn't so bad just a new pain and now its ok.

I still haven't lost any frigging weight yet and I'm still swollen so it looks like I gained instead.

My scars are healing very well and I don't think I will even need any scar cream once the scabs fall off.

Other than a little tenderness I don't even feel like I have a band and when I see my doctor I want proof that he gave me one and didn't just cut me and stitch it up.

Don't really be hungry, but that could be from already doing 2 weeks on the liquid diet.

We'll see, well thanks for listening to me rant.

I guess I missed the original post about the bullet. I keep seeing you guys talk about it.... is it just a blender?

Hi all  Just checking in ;)

I'm two weeks post op and 8.5 pounds down since surgery...not too shabby! Especially since I moved to the mushie/soft phase a little early (Doc OK'd it...kid's don't try this at home...without doc 'OK').

I feel wonderful! Exercising every day, except Sunday. Biking between 5-8 miles a day, swimming, and started light weights yesterday. (gotta be careful with the weights for the first 6 weeks)

I still manage to feel hungry, but do get a little restriction with just the band, very little! It's been difficult to decipher whether I am actually hungry or just want to eat. It's so rare that I'd ever let myself get hungry in the past, feeling hungry several times a day is new to me...I don't like that feeling. BUT I find that drinking a glass of Water gets me by for about a half hour or so. I really DOES make a big difference, not drinking for an hour+ after eating! If I drink sooner, I do get hungry faster.

So...that's about it. Congrats to all who've been banded recently and best wishes to those who are coming up in the very near future! :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
