June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Nope, I'm single. My 2 best friends know. One of them lives wayyy down in TX though, so that does me no good. Lol! My friend that lives here, she was going to be my driver, but now she is starting a new job and doesn't know if she'll be able to get the day off. She was so nice about it though and talked to her husband and HE will be driving me, and sitting around all day waiting for me to be done and then take me home. I have the best friends!

As for going back to work so soon... I have to work every other weekend. I work on an Oncology ward, so we don't usually have alot of heavy care patients. And I have a bad back (chronic since I was about 18 years old) so I was thinking if any lifting should come up for a few days (weeks?) I will complain about my back and get someone to do it for me. I don't like lying, but I don't want anyone to know about the band. I guess I'm fearful of failure and not actually losing weight with it? I don't want people looking at me everyday trying to figure out if I've gotten skinnier yet.

I know. I'm crazy.

Suzzie --I don't think you are crazy at all- a couple of girls at work have had the band -- everyone is always talking behind their backs-- she's eating an awful lot or she sur ehasn't lost enaything-- so I am not going to tell anyone anything-- if they ask what I'm doing to lose I'm just going to say I've cut down on my portions-- not actually a lie-- just not the WHOLE truth.

I'm with 2bhealthyagain on that, too. My husband is the only one who knows and I plan to keep it that way. I don't need anyone's negativity or gossip right now. When I start to lose weight, I'm planning to tell people that I'm eating more Protein and less of everything else and that I'm exercising more. All of that is true. It's not EVERYTHING, but I don't tell people everything anyway. There is a difference between lying ("the weight is just magically falling off!") and being private and selective about what you tell people.

I am trying to decide whether or not to tell my kids. They are teens. My youngest, she is the village voice. I hate not telling them, but I don't want it broadcast. Ugh!!

Welcome Angel and Irish! this site is a great information tool and a way to develop friendships! Irish are you from Ireland? I am 100% Irish but born in the US.

Missy, you and I have the same post op diet. It does not seem to bad, but it will get hard not having any solid Proteins. I think that the day of the surgery, and after will be the hardest, no food at all and then very slow on Saturday! But the excitement may override that!

Simply, You are with me on Thursday! I can't believe we are here!!!

Rhonda, are you from Washington DC? I am from Northern Virginia. where are you having your surgery. I have two sons, ages 21 and 18. My 18 year old does not really understand and thinks I am fine the way I am. I think he is a bit nervous. My 21 year old thinks I did it before so just do that again! I told him that is the problem, that I yoyo all my life.

Good luck to Nina and Kim tomorrow!!!

Toni and all,

I emailed my nurse today, she emailed me back after 5. I pulled over to read it on my blackberry. She said that the doctor will have another ultrasound done in 6 months to monitor it. She said, if they had to do the gallbladder that I would need to wait another 6-8 weeks for the band. I really don't want to do that, I have been waiting to long, plus I almost completed my pre opt diet!!! I deserve it.. I am excited to go on Thursday.

Hi everyone!!! My name is Amber and I am from Northwest Ohio.

My surgery date is June 12th in Mexico with Dr Rodriguez. I am getting very anxious. I kinda wish the surgery itself was over and i was on my way to a thinner me. Anyone else have the same surgery date? Would be nice to have a support buddy close by too.

Janine, I'm from WA state. I did live for 4 years in Northern VA though....loved it there. I think I will discuss this with my family, but maybe not right away.

Day #1 of my preop diet went okay. I had my 2 shakes and I'm having my Lean Cuisine in a minute. Wish me luck...I'm a late night snacker!

I can't believe I'm finally doing this! Yeehaw!

Welcome Austies! You're in good company on the 12th...RitaMO, LadyBlue, Pippz and dawneb are getting banded. I'm not sure if anyone is in MX on that date, tho....

CBlancha...I'm with you, only on the banded side. It's been 4 days since I've been banded and I'm getting hungry. I can't believe I can't eat solids yet, let alone full liquids or pureed foods. Uggggggh! I can't offer any words of wisdom, but can commisserate! I'm sooooooo proud of all of you that did this pre-op.

{{{{{{{ Java }}}}}}}}} I'm glad you got word about your g/b and they're going to monitor it so you don't have to wait 6-8 weeks. Can you imagine all that hard pre-op dieting literally flushed down the drain???? :faint: I hope you aren't too worried, and got ALL the answers you wanted!!!!!

Congrats on your date, Rhonda! If you don't tell your kiddos, let us know how you manage THAT post-op! That would be some feat to hide your recovery from them, unless you made up some other illness/surgery recovery.

{{{{{{{{{ Pippz }}}}}}}}}}} What's this with being diabetic? I don't know anything about diabetes, but do you have the kind that's managed with diet and exercise, or are you going to need insulin?

Welcome Simplyme, Irish, and Angeladarling! Angela....I was/am banded in Houston, too! I'm not familiar with your Dr., but I googled him!:biggrin1: Are you getting banded at the Renaissance Hospital???? Looks like a nice facility!

MissySafari....I can totally relate to what you felt in the bakery and wondering about failing on the band. But that's what we're here for! I'm hoping for inspiration/support for eating and exercise if or when I want to stray, since I don't have anyone in my family that's banded. We need not worry, girl...we're going to make it!

Hoosierpoms...if you see this...how are you doing? How's your hunger? Are you satisfied on your post-op diet????

Cheers All, esp. Kim and Nina tomorrow!

---Toni

I'm going to try to avoid the multi-posting I did last night. Haha.

So, I was having an issue with finding a ride to and from surgery on the 15th. My friend that was going to take me just started a new job and can't request a day off so soon. She offered up her husband to go with me, But I don't feel like that is fair to him? Lol. So I talked to my other best friend, who lives in Houston (I'm in Kansas City) and told her she should take a few days off to come be with me. While I know that she can't do that, she did offer up a great solution I hadn't even thought about! She told me to call our friend Brian and have him drive me. I have kept this surgery such a secret I hadn't even considered that I hadn't told him yet! He's like, the gay best friend. Haha. So I called him and he is absolutly THRILLED for me! He was so excited and offered to even sstay the night with me if I needed him to. He was just too cool about it. He was only slightly offended that I hadn't told him sooner, but he says he understands my desire to keep it hush. I am just so blessed with the BEST friends! :welldoneclap:

Oh, and he and his boyfriend want (demanded) to take me out for a steak dinner this weekend!! :hungry: Yum! Makes me sooo greatful that my pre-op diet only consists of 48 hours of liquids! Haha!!

Good luck to those getting banded tomorrow!!

Welcome to the newbies!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
