Hi guys

Op done - gastric bypass - 1st part complete...bring on the body morphious

Spent a couple of days in ICU - problems with bleeding, breathing and pain so I'm told - I don't remember anything!!!

Home now enjoying the fluids and wishing the nausea would just go the #£|¥\*}*!\ away.

I am so happy for you that your home now @@Saltydog

Before you know it you will be up and about feeling so much better.

Whats the post op diet like with bypass??

@@Bellarose100 I know it can be confusing to find the right specialist.

I have only had experience with Lap Surgery Australia and I have to say I think that they are fantastic!!!!

I know others that have been through them and have been very happy also.

Ray and Richard have been involved in obesity surgery for such a long time and they take all precautions when taking you on as a patient.

They have one of their surgeons on call 24/7 every day of the year which gave me peace of mind.

Anyway thats just my opinion.

Also I know that your phi doesn't kick in till start of feb but....there is a build up of things that you need to do beforehand including tests etc and quite often they are busy (the good specialists are anyway) so might pay to get in early and get your referal and start your appointments quite soon.

I went to my surgeon 6 months prior to make sure I was happy with him and to do all the pre testing, and I was booked in the day after my phi kicked in (I wanted to do it the day after just to be sure I was 100% covered)

So really its not too early to start the ball rolling and then you will feel sure about your surgeon and have secured your date that you want rather than going later and having to wait longer as they are fully booked.

Here is the link to the group that I went to but not sure where you are in Melbourne??

http://www.lapsurgeryaustralia.com.au/

They operate at knox and the valley private, and I think that they may operate in morning too and maybe berwick but I am not too sure??

Hi Nerms and Steveelea

Thanks for your support guys - post op diet is very different to anything the Americans and other countries talk about...,,this also includes the pre-op diet and the hoops they have to jump through.

If you were to compare you'd say we have it very very easy.

The dieticians that I have seen ....once before surgery and once before I was discharged and that was because I asked to see them and I don't see them again for 2 weeks.

The advice and guidelines are very flexible and no real guidelines other than firsts few days post surgery is /icechips/sips Water until you have the X-ray and awful drink/radioactive crap to x-ray view that there is no leaks then they progress you to fluids or straw diet - anything that fits through a straw - they also advocate Optifast smoothies for diet/nutrient benefits - I hate them so have been drinking anything I can make into soup/fluid consistency with real foods and fruit smoothies - even allowed icecream, jelly, fruit juice etc etc

I have to say this laxidaisial approach made me really nervous and they basically say listen to your body.

Going for small walks a couple of times a day so feeling pretty good really

Hope everyone else is doing well

Night

@@Bellarose100 if you have been trying for that long imho its not going to happen on its own....you need a tool to help you.

Thats just my opinion though and what I did for myself.

One of the other reasons I love my surgeon so much is that he help me to understand obesity.

He explained that obesity is like any other disease eg diabetes and high blood pressure. Sometimes you can do all that you can and it still doesn't work in the long run.

He also explained that there are genetic factors involved and it's not always cut and dry as to say eat healthy and lose weight.

He is brilliant and sympathetic to the weight loss process.

I was scared to get this done and he said that he is more scared for me and my health if I don't.

He promised my mum and hubby that he would take great care of me and that it was the right thing medically to do.

He is so wonderful which is why I think if you want a surgeon that is going to explain things and take the time to tell you the pros and cons and help you to make the best decision possible, he is great.

Not all surgeons have a great bedside manner or explain things when you are unsure but he is brilliant in my opinion.

You need to find a surgeon like that who will sit down with you and go through everything so you can make the right informed decision and then when you decide maybe take your hubby with you so he understands too.

@@Saltydog who did you get your surgery done by??

I had the sleeve so different to bypass but I had a menu plan to follow from liquid only, then to runny puree, then thicker puree then soft foods etc and it was over a 4 to 6 week period

Thats great you are going for walks already...well done :)

Feeling pretty crap due to no restriction.. Probably eaten too much and now I'm scared I've gained some weight.. My scales won't work so that just adds to the paranoia. 1 or 2kg wouldn't really be HORRIBLE but it still won't be nice.. and to think I have to wait 4 more weeks until I can get a fill.. So annoying.

No one's fault but my own. Stop eating when you're full.. but I never feel full. Luckily there's nothing left in the house and I don't get paid until tomorrow. I guess I'm just gonna have to buy what I need daily, cos if it's there in front of me, whether I'm hungry or not.. I'll eat it. Really inconvenient but I don't want to eat what I don't need and that's what I'm going to have to do :/

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
