@@Mick Way to go still going strong with the weight loss thats brilliant!!!!! So glad to hear from you and that you are going well.

I can imagine how hard it would be to do it full time all the time and going out etc....can you maybe eat a lean low carb meal and drink low carb beer every now and then on special occasions??

I think that spirits are low carb too (whisky vodka etc) its what you put with them that matters....maybe soda Water or coke zero? Just some ideas not sure if they help or not

You are doing so well keep strong!!!

@@nerms you are so right scales are not a great idea to do all the time....its too tempting to get on them too often.

I know our bodies fluctuate and carry Fluid etc.....its always happened to me so I shouldn't be surprised.

1kg is nothing in fluctuation is it....and there is no way I could have eaten enough to put on 1kg in 2 days haha....my tummy wouldn't fit it in LOLs

Nerms you just put things back into perspective for me.....thanks soooo much I really needed to hear that.

Sometimes you just let little things get to you and you doubt yourself.

I love this forum you guys are a great Support!!!!

@ Start the countdown only 30 days.....that time will Fly!!!!!!!

It's so normal to be nervous and excited.....I remember that feeling :)

I hope everything is ok with all of your specialist appointments and that you are going well and feeling good.

To have exams on top of everything WOW.....but hey guess it all helps you to keep busy and makes the time fly by.

Let us know how you get on with everything....thinking of you :)

@@QueenBeeBee 113.2? You must be stoked!

As for the NSV, that's great!! I remember that feeling, sooooo good!! The next big event in the family is my 21st at the end of March, I plan on dropping jaws :)

I've been eating so well the last 3 weeks and I had a bad day about 3 days ago and I've felt like crap ever since.. I was so sure I would of gained, got on the scales this morning cos its a week since I did last.. 100g grams gone.. LOL so relieved.. Definitely shocked me back into eating better.. I'm just so happy that I woke up the next morning and started eating properly again. I know a day off every now and then is normal/good but I actually shat myself.. hahahahh

Hey nerms! you are gonna look great babe! hang in there!

Dont stress about the one day bad day as long as its ONE DAY and doesnt turn into one week or month or year :) your doing so good chicky! So surgery is soon? so how much have you lost hun?

@@QueenBeeBee I started at 104 and now I'm 92 so I'm pretty stoked about that. There's just under a month until preop for me, so hopefully a few kgs shed during that time also.. weight loss has slowed because I'm getting a bit lazy, but a loss is a loss so I'm happy! I would be super happy to even get to 90kg by surgery date :) which I think I can do :D

So annoying that all of a sudden I'm being invited to all these bbqs and dinners out of no where.. I reply that I can't come and everyones shocked cos I'm usually the first one to get to the table and the last one to leave haha. Not anymore! No more fatty woggy feasts for me.

Anyone heard about the reason for hair loss after getting the sleeve??

I am just starting to get a little stressed as I am losing so much hair....I have always had a lot of hair and have always lost a lot too but the amount I am losing is getting more and more and it's starting to freak me out.

Any ideas on what I could take or what I am lacking in that may be making this happen??

Yeah it's normal with any weight loss surgery. I've read a lot about it because I love my hair.

Pretty much,

It's called telogen effluvium. Human hair has a two stage growth cycle. The growth phase is called anagen and 90% of our hair follicles are in this phase at any given time. The resting phase is called telogen, which lasts about 1 to 6 months, with an average of 3 months. About 5-15% of our hair is in the resting phase at any given time. It is also known that telogen effluvium has to do with stress to the body and hormonal changes that can occur. Due to the stress more hair follicles can enter into the resting phase. This is important because the hair in the resting phase at the time of surgery is most likely the hair you will shed. This is why your hair sheds between 1 to 6 months after surgery (usually about3 to 4 months).

Found that on a site and it sums up everything I've read about it. Your hair will grow back, my mum lost a lot hair when she had surgery years ago, she already had thin hair so you could tell it was thinning out but she just cut her hair shorter and it eventually all grew back and no one knew a thing.

I have hair up to just under my boobs, long thick and luscious! If I have to cut it a bit I will, it'll grow back!

People try to take hair growth supplements but they end up becoming hairier in other places, if you give it time it'll grow back.

Iron and Protein could help with the growing back of the hair.< /p>

Thanks so much Nerms......was starting to freak right out for a bit there.

I do remember losing hair when I got the lap band but not as much as this.

I have always had such a lot of hair and thick hair but it's getting thinner which isn't the end of the world I know, but I was starting to think that there might have been something wrong with me.

Thanks so much for posting that Nerms it all makes sense now. ????

I already take Iron sup's but I don't want to become hairy macleary everywhere else so I will just see how I go and see what my next blood test results say about my Vitamin levels.

Thanks Bee for your support. You will hit double figures in no time!!

Leanne let me know how all goes with the hair. I'm freaking out about losing me hair. I've got lots which is lucky but still I would be upset losing it. Thanks for all that info Nerms!

Mick, well done on your weightloss that's amazing!!

Good luck Cath, the 30 days will fly!!

Thanks everyone. I'm going well and am now home. I'm driving my car and it only really hurts when I get out of the car. It's nice to be home though. I'm making Soup tomorrow!! Delish!

Here's my face pics.

My friend is a hairdresser and she suggested scalp massage could help slow the loss. Also I've heard Biotin (vitamin h) is good for the hair loss and I plan on using both because I'm terribly vain!

Had a total win day yesterday... I'm a fiend for carbs I love them and they are my weakness. I started the VLCD yesterday and totally stuck to optifasts plan to the letter, didn't even want bad things when they were offered. I work at a hospital and nursing desks always have chocolates from patients or chips or cans of coke for sale. And I just don't want it.

Also as I live alone and rarely entertain I have put my big plates in the hall cupboard along with the bowls and side plates. I won't be needing the big items any more and that is fabulous!

Had a headache the other day because of my IH and also got the pressure feeling in my head when walking up the stairs last night. I'm looking forward to not having this or back problems.

Anyway that's enough from me. I hope all are well and recouping nicely or enjoying their preparations as much as I am.

I'm pretty grateful to have this little community to share my progress with and to support and be supported by.

Have a great weekend.

:) Cath

Cath well done on starting the Optifast.....you sound like you will do this stage easy :)

It is so great to have this little community of people that are all dealing with the same thing.

We will always need support maybe not all the time, but the sleeve is only a tool and we still have to get through the mental side of things that we have dealt with most or all of our lives as to keeping on track.

I am still bad for head hunger and need to overcome that part.

Bee well done on your weight loss you are smashing this.

Yep I will let you know how I go Chez......I do remember this after the band but this has happened later than what it did with that and more hair loss.....Lucky for me I have lots of hair.< /p>

My daughter is training to be a hairdresser and she said not to worry about it that even though its a little thinner it still looks fine and you can't tell that I am losing it at this stage....she was like "mum you haven't got any bald spots so it's all good"

Chez I can't see your face pics???? There is nothing there????

Time is flyyyyyyyyyyyying by!

I groomed a poodle in class today, feeling inspired.. In 3 months I'll be a qualified groomer and hopefully get a job soon(I see so many adverts for grooming jobs). It's all falling into place finally! Grooming, banding.. yay

I've been trying to get into shelter work for ages now but I've just had no luck.. I'm qualified for it but nothing for a year :( I'm sick of doing shitty jobs that stress me out.. After seeing all the grooming jobs I was like yep, I'm doing it... So I got a shitty job, saved for surgery and course then quit LOL

Looking good@@Chez :)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
