Eat on a schedule or when hungry?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if most Sleevers eat at scheduled intervals, or just when hungry. Any thoughts?

I am not sure what others do. I have not had a lot of success with consistency in tracking food offer the years. But I am making an effort to record my activities and intake. I bought an app called "Food Diary". It's on the Android market place but I am sure it's available for apple as well. It was only $0.99 . Its very flexible and doesn't try to be overly sophisticated. You can modify or enter whatever you want.

This doesn't send reminders from what I can tell Butt if you know your goal per day it helps you keep track of where you are too target.

Scheduled intervals. Usually 3 light meals and 1 or 2 Snacks. Snacks consistent mostly of lowfat cheese sticks and sugar free Popsicle.

I try to stick with regular, planned intervals. Otherwise, I start grazing.

Be well…

Our surgeon gave us the best advice ever. He said do not eat 3 meals a day, eat only when you are hungry, and really hungry. This works so well for us because we were both sleeved. I keep things such as fresh guacamole, chicken salad, cole slaw, string cheese, boiled eggs, tuna salad, in the fridge for a bite or two during the day, and at 5 months post sleeve we are having a light meal a day, such as the Greek salad we shared for dinner last night. We take good Vitamins, our labwork has been great. I have found the more I eat the hungrier I seem to get. I was told at 3 months out to back off eating so much Protein, to drink no more Protein shakes, so I make sure I have veggies added in daily now.

If I only are when I was hungry most days I would never get anywhere close to my Protein goals and I would eat less than 300 cals a day, I know because I have tried it. I know it works for some, but not me.

I don't exactly eat at scheduled intervals anymore (almost five months out, earlier I did) but at general times of day. Protein shake before I take the kids to school, etc.

I eat on a plan. Three 3 oz meals and two Protein Snacks a day. The timing varies according to my schedule for the day

I do it this way because after 60 years of dieting and failing my idea of when I am hungry is so screwed up that I can't possibly rely on it to tell me when and how much to eat.

I am almost three months out and down 52 lbs. so will continue to do it this way. I find recording everything very helpful. It reminds me to eat clean and carefully.

It's so true about not knowing when your hungry! Again, I thought I was the only one to feel this way. I've spent so many years eating and eating and eating that I really don't know what true hunger is.

I eat when Im hungry, Im not sure if its the right way. I will have to find out tomorrow with my Dr for my 2 weeks postop visit. I eat about 3x daily. Protein and Water is most important.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
