Tired of sweet protein drinks!

Recommended Posts

I am so tired of sweet Protein drinks! Does anyone know of any Protein Shakes or drinks that have a savory flavor? Why are they all so sweet?

Unjury makes a bariatric Protein powder in unflavored and chicken Soup. I have also been adding non fat milk and unflavored protein to 1 of those super sweet Protein Drinks - measuring so it's 70 grams of protein (what my doctor says to have daily) and finding it easier to handle. Good luck!!

Time to switch to Soups :) http://www.bariatricchoice.com/bariatric-diet-soups.html

Or have you tried Peanut Butter Protein drink (Syntrax)? It's really tasty and not too sweet.

I try to just turn off my senses (taste, and smell) cause the unjury only has 20gms of Protein. I just do 2 scoops of whey, 30 gms of Protein a scoop (it's awful, I agree) and get it over with, then the rest of the day I push greek yogurt high in protein. I never look forward to mornings anymore until the shake is over with. I'm on a regular diet, but still have trouble getting things down. Yesterday I was able to eat chicken for lunch around noon, but around 6:30 when I tried to eat chicken, it just wasn't having it. I don't get nausea, vomiting, sliming, but it hurts until I release gas one way, or another, haha. Good luck!

I have lots of recipes for savory Protein Soups on my blog because I too was SICK of sweet shakes. It's www.twosleevers.com. Search for "tired of Protein shakes" and you will find hot and sour Soup, chicken mushroom, shrimp bisque etc that we still use from time to time.

Only savory protein I know that's ready made is unjury chicken broth and I drank so much post op they I never want to see it again

I bought GNC unflavored whey. It has 24 grams per scoop. I have been mixing 1/2 scoop with 1/2 cup of Campbell's cream of chicken and I can't taste the Protein at all. And one can of Soup has lasted for 3-4 meals!

Back in the beginning someone suggested adding Decaf instant espresso to the shakes to change it up. Helped incredibly until I could get to Soups.< /p>

I am 12 days post surgery. Like many of you, I'm also really tired of the sweetness of the shakes. I am using flavored Protein powder such as Nashua Nutrition or Unjury to add to my Water. I find I can't handle the sweetness, so usually use 1/3 to 1/2 the powder in my 20 0z water bottle, but at least its still getting extra protein than I would otherwise. Any other ideas along these lines?

Me too. I wish I had not bought the cases of boost from BJs.

Does the unflavored have a taste?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
