I am almost 2 months out...down abt 35lbs...but struggling with Protein. I am curios about hair...I usually color/lighten my locks in the spring but was wondering how others hair have handled color/bleach after weight loss surgery? I had bypass if that matters. Thanks!

I'm seventh months out and my hair is highlighted and had no problem.

I must say this that Protein is very important and you must eat all that is required to do or when your hair starts to thin out in month four, five and six you will loose more from the lack of Protein in your diet.

Also your body will not heal as well from surgery from the lack of protein.

I suggest Protein shakes, unflavored Protein powder in sugar free Jello, in sugar free pudding or even in crystal light.

That will help get protein in your body.

You could also use powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup that has 20g of protein in each serving.

These are just suggestions for you.

Good luck and have fun with your hair.

For hair loss, I found Iron was incredibly important. So it's not just about the Protein, but the quality of it.

I was told to up my Iron, so I practically quadrupled the amount I took, ate red meat and it slowed the loss considerably.

As for dying my hair, I use semi-permanent dark brown hair dye. Found it worked well for disguising the bald Patches at the sides of my head (temples). I dunno whether it caused a decent shadow or dyed my scalp.

Either way, its done the job until the little horns of re-growth I'm starting to develop (that's re-growth of hair, not my turning into the second coming of beelzebub!), comes to full fruition. :D

madam rev.....glad to hear that your hair is coming back. I remember when you were in a deep blue funk about it for a while. I am just at four months, and my doc said last week that it's my turn to watch the tub drain.

hmjdreamingbig.......madam rev is always spot on. You can take her advice seriously.

I always had thick healthy hair, but at about 4 months post-op, my hair started falling out in clumps, all my drains were clogged with hair. And even though my hairdresser said she could not tell the difference, it was disgusting and gross. My hair was limp. I colored my hair during this time, but I did not highlight it as I usually did because I did not want to stress my scalp anymore than it was. I couldn't deal with the mess of combing out the gobs of hair, so I got a shorter bob that was easier to manage. It was the best thing I did. My hairloss is now minimal and in fact my hairdresser has noticed new hair growing in and I'm back to my regular length. My hair is now thicker and has more body than ever. Whatever happens with your hair, remind yourself it is temporary, be open to doing things different for a few months and as your health improves from the weight loss and your nuturtion is good, you may have healthier hair than ever before.

Fanks, love.

The Hair loss is a really distressing thing when it happens - I will not deny.

Felt like it was endlessly just falling out in clumps. Don't get me wrong, my hair is still falling out (particularly when I blow dry it), but there is re-growth, too.

Guess it's just that growth cycle thing I have to contend with now. Hopefully it'll all be back to normal at about month 12.

Knowing me, I'll get to the point when all the bald bits are filled in and I'll get it all cut off!

I'm a fussy sort!

Here's hoping you're one of the lucky ones and you don't lose any hair.

They're few and far between, but it can happen.

Here's to consuming LOTS and LOTS of Iron

:)

I get my hair highlighted every six weeks, no problems. (But I have masses of hair so the hairloss following my surgery didn't even make a dent in it. It just made me invest in liquid Plumber.)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
