I'm a self pay. My company's insurance does not have an "obesity rider" which allows for approval of the procedure for insurance purposes....early stage company with lots and lots of healthy people, so they felt they didn't need to pay for the rider. With self pay, the wheels do move faster, which I really appreciate. I'm maxing out BLIS insurance so all the various complications are covered for the max period possible. Having spent that money and my luck, all will go swimmingly. That's what I'm hoping!

Congrats to all June sleevers! Nice to meet you and share the journey!

Hey, I heard that your taste buds change after surgery so don't buy a lot of Protein shakes... You my start to dislike what you currently like.

I go for my pre-op EGD tomorrow, it's required just to make sure there's no surprises whenever I go for the surgery. Tomorrow marks the exact two week mark until this happens!!!! It's getting so real!!

Hello,

I have not received my date yet but I just found out that they have submitted to the inusrance already and are waiting for the approval. I have anthem blue cross, i heard the approval process is easy with them . She said that my preop will be scheduled as soon as they get that approval and a week after that preop appt would be the surgery. so it looks like the begining to mid june for me. I am getting nervous, scared and anxious.

Seems June 4th is a popular date! I'm having my sleeve done on this day as well. Started my two week pre-op diet on day 2. It's hasn't been that hard. 4shakes a day with up to 5 additional items like sf Jello, pudding, Soup and veggies. I realize just how much head hunger I really have! I am slightly nervous, but more excited on this journey for a healthy mind and Body! And it won't be bad to look as great as you feel! This is a very exciting time and I'm so ready to get it going!

I'm not having trouble with the diet during the day BUT when I get home from work is when the hunger sets in.... A friend of mine who went through the pre op process with me had her surgery on April 18, and she has lost a total of 47 pounds...which includes her pre op weight loss. Pretty amazing huh?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
