10 day diet starts today - May 5 surgery date!

Recommended Posts

So very excited, yet concerned that I won't be strong enough to handle the temptations and concerns. I've known a few people who had the bypass or the sleeve who didn't follow the "rules" and while they did lose weight, they are not healthy or trying to control their portions or content. I guess they took the easy road. I know that I need to do this right. I've waited too long to not give this my all.

Does anyone have any input on how to face these temptations head on?

Thanks!

I think that's one reason they have you do a psych eval... most people think this will "fix" everything...but you still have to work at it. The sleeve is but a tool, and you still have to put the right things in your mouth! Only with the tool, you fill up faster, so you know you have to eat the right things or there won't be any room left! (so you won't be very tempted) :)

During the liquid phase, most of us found the first few days the hardest, as your body goes thru detox...but after that, it comes much easier, especially knowing what waits for you at the end of that road!

Good luck, you've got this!!!!

I am 4 days out of sleeve I was concerned because I failed miserably on my post op diet. I ordered pizza for the kids last night and it was not even tempting, even though I'm only on liquids. I am so excited by this it's a new start

patjcare: I am on day 4 of the pre-op diet too. The first 3 days were horrible. I was starving too. Today, not so bad. I guess I'm getting used to it. 3 Meal Replacement shakes a day, Jello, ice pops and broth. It was harder with the head hunger than the stomach hunger. I'm scheduled for May 6, so we will all be in this together. Please keep us posted on how you are all doing along the way and good luck to all of you!!!

@momheartsdad ...are you being converted to sleeve? it doesn't say much in your stats... but don't worry... it'll be ok... the pre-op liquids goes by quickly especially knowing surgery awaits at the end of that road... :)

We are here for you! Get out that Protein and start sipping!!!!

Also a reminder, you can get free Protein shakes, scar cream, and possibly Vitamins from InsureNutrition.com... just go there and fill in the blanks! :)

Thanks for the info! I'm a first-surgery Sleeve. I tried years ago to get approved for the band, but my insurance denied, denied denied. I tried again later for the band and after being told it was covered by our insurance, I was told no, it wasn't. Although I wish this journey had started years ago, I am excited for the sleeve. I think it is a better fit for me. Counting down... :)

@NancyInOkc yes, be grateful...most banders are being "fixed" with the sleeve, so you don't have to go thru it twice...but it is a wonderful journey...even tho I have stalled, I have maintained, and that's important to me too...

I won't give up...this is my new forever!

I'm confused - what is the 10-day pre-op diet? I am scheduled for 5/12 and have received my final instructions from my surgeon - a mild laxative on 5/10 before bed and only liquids on 5/11, nothing after midnight. My surgery is scheduled for 7:30 in the morning. I've been on dietician-directed weight loss since getting into the program mid-January but it wasn't a 10 day "event" just prior to the surgery. We are required to lose a certain amount of weight before the surgery so they can access the stomach easier (shrinks the liver).

I'm getting a sleeve. This is all new for me. I'm getting real nerves that I'm going to mess it all up. I can't see spending all that money to mess up or gain any weight back

I just need prayer and support.????

I cant offer any sound advice to people during their pre op diet, but I wanted to drop a line to everyone who is currently on their pre op diet to say "I FEEL YOUR PAIN!" I always thought I would have enough will to do this damn liquid diet, but baby I am here to tell ya this is soooo hard! I am only on day 2 and I feel like climbing the walls. I have a family that I have to cook for everyday and I swear it takes everything in me not to give in (AND AGAIN THIS IS ONLY DAY 2). I pray it gets easier!

I want everyone to know I am pulling for you and sending you best wishes!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
