hiya all,

What I found worked for me pretty well before I got decent restriction, was to stop before I felt full. I sometimes left a bowl of food out, so if I got hungry again it would be there, but I never actually got hungry soon again.

It sounds like you are eating to a point of food backing into the esophagus, then it is irritated the next day from all the work it took to process and push the food through.

For a few days, try filling your plate with what seems a reasonable amount of food, then eat it, and leave to DO something, whether it is walking around the block, or logging on here, to chat. DO something to break the EAT cycle. See if you can cut down the amount of food you are taking in that way, and see if the next day is any easier.

I hope you get it under control. When can you get your next fill? That should help the most!!

Good Luck Sharon!!!

First, don't panic! You got your band 2 days after me! It sounds to me like the only thing you need to do is slow way down when you eat. You said the full feeling comes way too late, so if you s-l-o-w d-o-w-n, you should feel it.

Also, I feel like we shouldn't be looking for a feeling of FULL, but a feeling of NO LONGER HUNGRY when we eat. And to learn that the feeling of hunger isn't a bad thing, it's NORMAL! And usually if I drink a big glass of Water and do something to occupy myself, it passes within a few minutes.

Hang in there! You'll get the hang of this new life!

Also, I would say slow way down on eating. Even though you hungry and its hard, slow it down. I found that I ate to fast and I too don't get the full feeling until later, and by this time, I'm miserable. I started slowing down on eating, and setting my timer for 20 minutes. When the time goes off, I stop eating - no matter if I still feel hungry. I wait for 30 minutes and everytime, 30 min later, I'm full. It takes a good 20 min for that nerve in the upper part of your stomach to tell your brain you are full.

Just a suggestion, its been working for me.

Measure your food. I couldn't feel any restriction for a few months either. Sometimes I still can't. So eat 4-6 ounces of food and then call it quits. You might not feel full immediately. For some reason, it takes 40 minutes after I quit eating to feel full. Might have something to do with how I got this way to begin with.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
