I'm on officially day two of my pre-op diet, which for my surgeon is all liquids. I am not proud to admit, I cheated both days... had a small portion of peanuts yesterday, and then just ate a hardboiled egg... I'm just really craving something to chew on. Maybe gum, or sugar free lifesavers, as someone else said, would help?

Hi guys, don't know if anyone is following this but it helps to write down what's happening so after a calm day yesterday the hangries attacked today so cracked it a bit an had a nap lol thank god for Easter break back at work 2nrw so I don't know how that's going to go just need to hang in there on plus side since Wednesday I have lost 6kg which is 13lbs so that's good right? Hoping to lose another 3-5 kg by the 1st of May.... :) hanging in there...oh has anyone started to have some smelly breath?

the bad breath is the worst! It's from Ketosis. It's a good thing in that your body is burning fat but it sucks when you have to brush your teeth every 20 minutes lol

Hi guys! Yeah preopp is a real biatch! I do really look forward to my one meal of lean meat and veggies it's the highlight of my life loll.... the bad breath is a nightmare but on the plus I only have 6 days to go yay!!!!!! Nearly sleeve time for me saw my surgeon yesterday and my liver is feeling nicer for him just want it all over with now :) oh and don't worry about the cheating as long as ur liver shrinks that's the main thing for a safe surgery! :)

I know it sounds weird, but chewing cardamom pods can help with ketosis breath. Don't overdo it, cardamom is a powerful flavor and can be overwhelming. I used these when I was on an extremely low carb diet.

I am only three days post op but I can honestly say the pre-op (especially through Easter) was THE harder part for me. And yes, BAD breath! Try some sugar free lifesavers??

Thanks for that seatleslew it's good to know this is the hard part lol...

Okay so maybe I was a tad hasty in my opinion there,...LOL...because today I have the biggest darn gas bubble you can imagine! If they can pump that air in there, I sure wish they could pump all of it out. In the hospital, I was supposed to walk 4 times a day and the nurses never asked me to once, I had to ask them to take me. So stay on top of what you know you should be doing post op!

I have surgery in 5 weeks and was told to low carb the week before to shrink my liver, but I'm trying to start earlier. It's really hard, I completely understand. I did Ideal Protein for 5 months and lost 50 pounds but lived in a perpetual state of hunger. It was horrible-led to serious carb-binging after I finally gave up. I would literally have lists of foods I was craving. So, I'm nervous about going back into a hunger-diet situation. You are doing so well! I wish I had words of encouragement beyond "it's almost over." Keep up the great work and feel free to vent-we all get it! :)

Hello Traveler! You raise a great point so my friend was like wow ur doing great why can't u just do this instead of surgery? So I said well u do this for a week and let's see how u go? People think it's "the easy way out" I think it's like a reset on ur tummy giving urself a second chance an I stand talk and proud and my haters are my motivators lol.

Mmmm carbs I'm dying for a good burger or some fries or a kebab omg I'm starving lol but I hope my doctor compliments me on my skinny liver and is like wow that was the best liver I've seen!!!!

Believe me I'm trying to hang in ther 9 days to go!!!!! So what are u planning to do for preopp have u got some meals in mind?

Most naturally, normal-weight people wouldn't survive a week in our situations-we do have incredible will power and have all suffered more than they can imagine over years of dieting and starvation. This is exactly why the only people I told are my husband and my friend who had wls 6 years ago.

You are absolutely right Traveller :) we have gone from maybe 3000 calories to 800!!!! And then after sleeve possibly even less when people ask me how many calories a day and I tell them their eyes pop out! My preopp weight loss is slowing down now which is a shame....anyone else have this problem?

Cardamom sounds like a great idea

Oh and I hope you start feeling better soon my friend :)

So how's it going with this Preop diet? I think it sucks. Just my opinion. And mine is pretty simple and pretty lenient. I just feel like I'm starving and that I cheat too much. When I cheat I am adding an extra Protein usually. No jelly Beans today. That's a big step! I did eat my weight in sugar free Jello though. So today was very good! For dinner the past two evenings my husband has made a noodle type casserole that tastes so frickin good. I've actually taken huge bites of this crap right from the serving spoon in addition to my diet. I have a problem with its all or nothing and dieting with me......there is no moderation. There.....I just confessed. Blah. I'm going to go drink some Water now. I'm getting more and more nervous about the surgery day and I can't wait to get it over with so I can quit worrying!! Good night! 3 more days to go!

I'm on day 3 of this pre op hell! It's strictly liquid... The bad breath, headaches and the hunger pains are ridiculous!! I am an "all or nothing" type too so if I cheat at all I know that I won't stop. My surgeon said that it gets easier after day 3. I hope it's true!! Lol

Good luck to you all!!

I think it got better after day 3. I didn't have headaches anymore. Try spreading your drinks out further and more Jello in between.

I love costco! I've worked very hard to stay away though! And all those samples they hand out! Just a few more days! ;-). I'm home this weekend and I have such a much harder time controlling my eating while at home. Too many temptations. I'm strict liquids on Monday! Then 0545 on Tuesday I will be at the hospital ready to go! So hard to believe I'm finally this close!!! Keep up the good work everyone! :-). We can do this!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

      3. Doughgurl

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
