Restriction Question for the Long-Timers

Recommended Posts

The handful of times I vomited in the last year was due to taking Vitamin tablets on an empty stomach, or by eating a couple of bites past fullness. I don't think vomiting or sliming should be seen as 'normal' but more a sign of a problem - either with someone's eating choices or their sleeve.

I am 18 months out and experienced vomitting, sliming and dumping. I hope I am at capacity cause I can eat more than I could 6 months ago. Its nowhere near what I used to eat thankfully but I hope this is it. I get hungry every few hours and have to pick healthy Snacks. If that scale moves on the wrong direction, and it does sometimes, its not a good day lol.

I am two weeks shy of a year out and I still slime and vomit from time to time. I don't track it, but maybe once or twice a week I have a bad day and a meal that goes down easily comes right back up. I don't feel bad about it, it's just what happens. :)

Uh ... I'm with CowGirlJane on this. This far out, you should not be sliming and/or vomiting around eating. Of course, I am assuming y'all are not scarfing down food, chewing twice, then swallowing or taking huge bites ... right?

It may be prudent to get scoped and see what is going on.

I have a slight stricture that my doc is not concerned about. Some days I can eat a few more ounces, other days, a few less than normal. It's the lesser days that usually have me heaving. It only takes a bite or three before it happens and then it's done.

I agree, it should be checked out. I checked, and I'm good. :)

I can eat around 3oz of a steak. For some reason, not much chicken breast. I can eat a chicken leg, or a couple of wings, or not an entire thigh. I can eat 3 baby back ribs. sometimes only 2

I still have very good restriction, even after 5 years.

Sometimes I do judge it wrong. I think I can eat more than I can. Even after I am finished eating, I don't realize I ate too much. In those cases, I have thrown up. It happens more in restaraunts when I am talking and they bring so much food. I don't pay close enough attention, and I am way too full 10 min after I have eaten.

I am 3.5 years post op, and I think I can eat more now than at a year out. But I agree with a lot being said. If I eat the right things, I eat less than if I eat slider foods. I can usually eat a small chicken breast and maybe 1/4 to 1/2 cup of veggies with it. I can also eat about 3/4 cup of yogurt with Bran Cereal in it, but it is filling.

I am like you I'm 18 month out and can't touch Pasta or rice! My lunch is 2 slices of turkey meat and a little bit of hummus rolled up, and I feel sick with that sometimes. I have a huge restriction and still vomit once every 2 weeks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
