Sheena, eggs are fine at any time IF you can eat them. Some people can, even after a fill. I haven't been able to since the day of banding, no matter what time of day it is. I've tried and tried. It's a very personal thing, evidently.

I strongly advise being very careful with breads. Sometimes I get the feeling that I am trying to swallow a softball. This restriction is without a fill, which I am scheduled to have on 10/28/04. I find great satisfaction in filling up on Proteins, and carbohydrates used to be my downfall. I absolutely love my band, and can't imagine my life before. There are so many upsides to the procedure than downsides. Go For It!!!

There really isn't anything I can't eat... I am careful with bread as I sometimes have difficulty with really soft types... but other than that... I can eat everything I used to eat but in smaller amounts. I find that I do not crave carbs as much as I crave Protein now. I try and avoid high calorie things that are liquid as the band does not restrict Fluid intake... so... I avoid ice-cream... milkshakes... cream Soups... alcohol etc. The biggest changes are that I chew everything REALLY well and I don't drink fluids with or for one hour after eating. I also do not drink anything with carbonation or take ibuprofen. Hope that helps.

Darcy, why no Ibuprofen??? Never heard that.......

KT-

Ibuprofin is on a long list of medicines called NSAIDS (which I don't remember what that stands for), but we aren't supposed to take them because they can be stomach irritant. I think pretty much the only over the counter pain medication we are supposed to take is acetamenophen (sp), like Tylenol.

Have any of you heard of anyone who has not lost any weight at all?

I have not "not" lost any weight at all but I am definitely not up to par with others I have been in contact with. I had my band put in on 7/10/03 and had at that time about 70 lbs. to lose. I lost 40lbs. by the end of the year and then I started not losing and even gaining. I was not eating alot nor eating alot of the "wrong" foods. We all know what those are. I was working out with a trainer 3 days a week and "trying"(I hate it!) to do cardio the other days. My trainer eventually went with me to my doctor because I was not losing and my doctor basically called me a lier when I told him I was not eating all of the wrong foods. Said it was impossible to starve and not lose weight. The two of them together decided I had put my body in starvation mode so therefore my body was storing and keeping whatever I put into it. I'm not real good with regimen so since the beginning of 2004 I have not lost and in fact have gained 10lbs. I found out 3 wks. ago that my band had slipped so I had surgery to fix that and I am going for my first fill on Monday. To say I am frustrated doesn't even cover it. My husband and I have a joke that if 99% succeed and only 1% fail, I'll be the 1%! If anyone else has had anywhere near the problems I have please let me know, especially if you have overcome them and can lend me a helping hand! Thanks, Debi

Wow Debi, I hope your surgery will get you back on track again. I am losing very slowly, but I do indulge in foods that I should avoid. Haven't slayed all my demons yet!

I got my first band May 29, 2003. I've lost 67lbs and I also had to have a 'slip' fixed (new band) in July of this year. My loss is slow. My body is small, my metabolism took a vacation and never came back, but I am so much better off WITH the band than without that I will fight like hell to keep it. I have a hard time losing too, especially if I waiver at all into the realm of 'iffy' foods. The scales have no mercy for me, but without this band, I would have gained another 30lbs or more by now IF I were still alive.

Hopefully, your fix will allow you to get the restriction you need to help you get over the hump. Have you tried tracking your foods in www.fitday.com to be sure your carbs aren't outweighing your Protein? How bout Water? Sounds like you're getting the exercise you need. Don't give up! You can do this!

Thanks goodness some encouraging words, the last few days it seems like there was a lot of negativity going on, plus health issues, like with the port and erosion, YIKES!

Needless to say, I was starting to get very cold feet, but now I'm back on track with all the positive input...thanks for renewing my desire to be thin.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
