I am 14 days out, Im only suppose to be on Water and Protein Shakes and my Dr said to start soft foods. Any ideas. My book says cheese, Greek yogart and cottage cheese and Peanut Butter. I was bad and cheated and ive already ate several sm bites of hard boiled egg and tuna. I'm down 14 lbs since surgery and my Dr says that's on the low side. Now I'm affraid to adds in food. Any help or motivation would be greatly appriciated.

You have to work your tool for YOU...

I'm surprised you were able to keep that food down...it must have been VERY little...

drink a lot of fluids to help fill you up, but you need the Protein to help break down the fat in your body.... so it's really a good thing, if you stay on liquids too long your body goes into starvation mode and trys to retain it's fat...so follow your program and you will do well!

Please stick with what your surgeon has suggested....you've JUST had an internal organ operated on, and at this point it's not just "being bad" to eat more solid foods if you haven't been cleared by the doctor -- it's dangerous.

Internally, your stomach has an incision, and they want you on the progression of liquids, then soft foods because it is safer while this incision is healing. Right now, it's not so much about weight loss as it is about healing fromsurgery. Please be careful. You don't want to risk getting somethig stuck in the staple line or possibly causing a leak, all for progressing too quickly on your diet before the dr says it's ok.

Stick with the greek yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. It won't be too long before you work up to the tuna, etc. You'll be there before you know it!

take care & good luck!

I'm 14 days post op and I am allowed to eat a scrambled egg as part of my puréed diet.

That's funny because, eggs, tuna and Peanut Butter are all on my list of soft foods I can have starting 2 weeks post-op. So if it doesn't bother you and you are sticking to the 4-6 ounce serving I would say you are good. I am 2 days post op and I am not required to eat Protein Shakes, they like you to try to get 2 in between meals a day. I am just adding unflavored to crystal light and my Soups so that I can get more Protein.< /p>

Agreed, if it's on the list and you're cleared to eat it, then by all means eat it. I was advising caution because the OP sounded like she was progressing faster than her dr's intentions.

Each dr has different guidelines; I recommend following the instructions of the surgeon who did your operation. When in doubt, call your NUT or surgeon.

I did tuna and low fat mayo. I also did hard boiled egg with mayo. I don't think that is cheating as long as it is moist and mashed. I did this at 2 to 3 weeks out and was fine. Everyone is differant. I too just had like 4 bites and was stuffed.

Also 14 lbs at 2 weeks is great. I can't believe your doc said on slow side!Your doing great.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
