Not Losing- 4 months Post op

Recommended Posts

4 weeks after surgery when I was able to start eating, I did. I gained most of the weight back that I had lost pre-op.

After my 1st fill, not much change. I didn't lose weight, but I didn't gain either

After my 2nd fill I lost a couple pounds, but not much. I definitely know that I'm not eating too much. I eat 3 small meals today and rarely snack (maybe 1x a week). Why am I not losing weight? I'm eating a lot of Protein and vegetables. I rarerly eat starchyfood. I don't get why the 1-2 pounds a week is not coming off like I thought it would.

It's been 4 weeks since my 2nd fill and I'm going for my 3rd fill today. I'm hoping that after this I will actually start to lose weight on a steady basis. I know it is a slow loss, but if I can at least see the 1-2 coming off a week I would feel so much better.

I'm 4 months out from surgery now and I'm only down 4 pounds from my surgery date. (overall I'm down more than that from the weight I lost pre-op).. but only 4 pounds in 4 months??

You didn't mention if you were working out. Working out builds muscle which weights more than fat but takes up less space. Several people have posted links to examples of this on YOUTUBE. Are your clothes fitting looser and you're just not see pounds go down on scale?

How many calories per day are you consuming? Can you give us an example of what you're eating at a meal and what your Water intake is daily. Also how many grams of Protein are you consuming daily. This information will help us give you better advice. Based on what you stated above it sounds like you're doing everything right. Thanks!

No worries! I lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks and then nothing the next 3.5 months. I too was 4 months out with virtually no weight loss. Then, my 3rd fill and a nutritionist consult started me on my real journey. She pointed out the extra foods(about 300 cals) I was eating that were empty calories and did not allow the band to work it's magic. I changed my diet just a little and along with the exercising(2 years ago in March) outdoors, I started to lose weight consistently. About 38 more lbs over the next 6 months.

It's frustrating I know, and this is one of the downsides to being banded that no one tells you about before surgery, but, hang in there, count those calories, exercise and I know you'll start to lose.

I feel like I'm getting enough Protein

Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled with mushrooms and a banana

Lunch: weight watchers frozen entrée- shrimp linguini

Snack: Greek yogurt

Dinner: black bean veggie burger (no bun) with pickles and Tomato, broccoli

That's what I had yesterday. No other Snacks throughout the day. I usually drink about 6 glasses of Water a day and no other liquid.

You must be hungry with what you're eating? Do you feel restriction/satiety yet?

BTW-I'm not seeing a lot of Protein with the menu you posted? I guess if you're not hungry that may be OK but if you're exercising??, you're not eating enough Protein to build muscle.imo

I'm not hungry throughout the day. I usually only get hungry around 3pm and that's when I have a snack.< /p>

The yogurt, eggs and the burger all have a lot of Protein. I don't add any starches in my meals. It's Protein and veggies.

Can a few people post a sample day of their food?

I am not vegan. I have just never been a huge meat Eater but I do eat it.

I do exercise so maybe I'm not consuming enough?

Sounds like I should add some more into my meals? Maybe add the egg and some meat into my eggs? I don't know.

How any calories a day should we be consuming?

Call your surgeon and make an appointment with the nutritionist? You're eating a lot of processed foods. Real Protein from fresh fish, chicken is more satisfying and nutritious for building muscles and maintaining or losing weight than processed foods.

Your nutritionist will know how many calories you should consume but not all calories or Protein are the same. It's not just eating 1000 calories and you lose weight. A nut can help you a lot. I highly recommend it.

I would omit the banana and linguini. Also watch the sugar and carbs in the yogurt. I would also try to increase the Water by 2 glasses if you can. Be watchful too of the sodium in your prepackaged foods.. How are you doing with your Fiber?

I am 21 days post op but my days have been looking like this....

I start my day with 10-12 oz of Protein hot choc or Cappuccino ..15 grams protein-94 cals (to help loosen my band)

I may have a 80 cal -12. Gram Protein yogurt or 1/2 cup cottage cheese and 1/4 cup NSA diced peaches for Breakfast. Or a Protein shake. Most days I don't because after hot choc I start working on my Water and I'm usually full.

lunch I'll have 1/2 cup of tuna mixed with cottage cheese or 1/2 piece of tilapia or salmon or a couple of slices of turkey spread with a little chive cream cheese and rolled up.

Today I had 3/4 cup ground beef/refried Beans and cheese mixed together

dinner is usually more of the same..

I usually have to have a Protein Drink before bed to meet my protein quota

I may not be a good sample because I am not eating much and I'm still on soft solids. I try to be very conscious bout my carbs and my activity level for the day. It is also my goal to have completed 3- 20oz bottles of water before leaving work. I usually get in more than the required 64.

Stay encouraged, I do believe it will get better!

Thanks for all the suggestions and tips.

The adjustment went well yesterday. I had .5 cc put in so I'm up to 5cc total now. I have another appt scheduled for 4 weeks. I'm also going to meet with a nutritionist tomorrow and try not to eat so much processed foods. My doctor also told me yesterday that since I'm working out 4 days a week I need to make sure I'm eating enough food and Protein.

Why omit the bananna?

Yay! Glad to hear all went well at your appointment!

I think one of the reasons someone recommended omitting the banana is because it's one of the higher calorie and carb fruits. I think everything in moderation, and it is fruit so maybe you don't have to completely omit it but maybe only have it 2-3 times per week and replace it with other fruit (s) throughout the rest of the week?

Again congrats on your visit today!!

Yes, that is why I said omit the banana. Although it doesn't give your blood sugar a bad spike it is higher in higher in carbs. Berries or peaches would be good. When we wkout our body burns carbs for fuel first then after the carbs are used it gets fuel from our fat stores( I plenty fuel there). I don't want to have to burn a lot of carbs before I can burn fat. It was just a suggestion. Right now I'm steering clear of all extra carbs...etc bread, rice, Pasta, potatoes until I get at least halfway because I do have a long way to go. I have put my carb demon to sleep and I'm being very careful not to wake it. That demon literally CONTROLS me!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
