Weird feeling from drinking

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I was sleeved on the 7th of April, and I'm at home now and the pain is subsiding with each passing day.

I'm a little worried though... I'm still on fluids for another week but at the moment whenever I drink something, even the smallest sip, I feel it get stuck in my tummy and it feels really uncomfortable; it passes after a few seconds when my stomach kind of... Groans (actual groaning sound) and the liquid passes through.

Anyone else have this problem? (I've noticed if I take a large gulp of Water I get the same feeling, but even the smallest sip will trigger it), will it pass ?

Thanks,

Very normal. I'm one month post op. You feel everything that touches your stomach the first few weeks. You're still really swollen in there. The noise doesn't go away (or so I've heard). It does get easier each day to drink. Don't gulp. That hurts (still hurts some a month out). Lots of small sips (like all day long!). One thing that helped me in the first week was sugar free Popsicles. And warm tea, warm Soups. But it sounds normal, at least I felt the same way during the early days. My stomach and intestines still make tons of noise.

Thanks! I've been worrying a lot about it, but luckily now you've let me know I'll keep at the sips.

I was sleeved on the 4th but I don't have any problems with drinking. I get that weird feeling also but its not really bothersome. My question is... I lost nearly twenty pounds on my pre-op diet and have lost nothing since surgery. Is that normal? I'm kinda freaking out.

Thanks,

Sip, sip, sip. Usually your surgeon gives you those guidelines. Some people gain weight with surgery, from IV liquids and swelling, some people lose. The more you read and research here the more information you will find. We are all different and we all will have different issues. Things will get better.

Thanks Linda!

I'm trying to do all that I am supposed to do. I am lucky that my job is easy with absolutely no heavy lifting and I sit at a desk. I've been here for 3 and a half hours and have managed to drink about 12 oz of Water. Not much but its a work in progress.

Linda is right, we all lose differently. I lost 28 pre op. Dropped 18 the first two weeks post op and then NOTHING for 2 weeks (eating 400-700). It was maddening! Then the stall stopped about a week ago and I've lost 5 in the last week. I started exercising and started my diuretic back. I don't have all the answers. Stalks are real and mostly mental. Measure yourself ( I finally did last night) and it gives you a good mental boost. Just stick to the program. You got this!

i was sleeved on the 8th and I experience the same. Your stomach is swollen and heeling so you will feel this. I take a deep breath and wait for it to pass.

Just a note, even at almost 5 months post op, I can take a drink of cold Water and feel it slide into my stomach. It is a weird feeling lol, and it just tells me things move on down like they should. Every day will be better! Hang tough!

I'am 6-wks. post-op. I had the Gastric Sleeve. I found by taking small sips, helped imensely with that weird feeling and growling. When I eat something, after the first belch, I stop eating and I'm satisfied at that point. I'm down 34 lbs. It sure does feel great, to finally see the scales move down, instead of up. Every day is better and better.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
