Don't wanna share WLS but need to say something?

Aha! I know the answer! "I had to have surgery for a really bad ulcer".

Ulcer surgery is basically a sleeve, but of course it's to remove damaged/diseased tissue, not directly for weight loss. Thus they might take only a little bit or maybe a bunch of the stomach. :) but you can always say, "they had to cut part out and sew it back up and now my stomach is a little smaller"

All the exactly-what-happened, with none of the stigma! ;)

They are going to figure it out once you lose 100 pounds in a year after surgery. I told family, friends and coworkers before and the support was amazing. After surgery I announced it on Facebook because some people were worried I was Ill. I have over 600 friends and I didn't get one single solitary negative comment. On the contrary, I was floored at all the support and love. Plus, I got private messages from 6 friends considering surgery asking me about my experience. The only reason there's a stigma is because we feel like we have to hide it. Own it! You should be commended for taking charge of your health!

I felt uneasy telling people since I got horrible responses some places and plenty of negativity but once I knew the people that mattered supported me and were happy for me then I gained a new perspective....now when co-workers ask what surgery, I just answer truthfully because they will no doubt notice the difference and I found that many of them have researched the surgery themselves and didn't know we were covered. I can tell I won't be the only one in our office very soon.

Wait until u see how much of an inspiration u are...maybe u will want to share. Good luck!

I am open with it; this was a response to several other posts about whether or not to share. A good friend of mine is having ulcer surgery soon that will remove half her stomach tissue. Her surgeon has told her to start attending Bariatric surgery classes to learn about the after-care.

Ive been reading the debates on telling vs not telling.

Ive told my personal circle of people I trust. I just recently got back on Facebook, and am not ok with publicly blasting it on there. Its just my choice and I dont like attention.

But what bothers me are the people on here thst say...their going to figure it out after you've lost 100 pounds.

To me, thats sounds like you dont have a single ounce of confidence in your own abilities. Wls or not, we've all had to bust our a$$es. Why spend any time thinking others will call you out on it and wonder if you've lost it by making changes to your eating and working out..or by surgical methods?? Because afterall, weve still done the hard work to get to where we are. If we've got so called 'friends' who will speculate if we have done anything surgically, then they really arent a real honest genuine friend then are they?!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
