You are not alone. I am so glad you posted this topic. I am scheduled on April 24 and have been on the fence. Questioning if I should go forward. I have to do this surgery. Anything worth taking a risk will cause some doubt. Hang in there...be strong

Ok I have been cool and calm this whole process but starting last week I'm a MESS! Like a deep depression mess. I don't wanna do anything or see anyone and I cry all the time. Mind you I have much going on at work and in my personal life and I have to try and stay positive about surgery? I am a mess.... A bawl bag, a cry baby and I feel like a big weenie!

I know I need to do this and it's the only way to get these disgusting 100 lbs off of me!!! I will regret it if I don't. If I were to back out I'd be a quitter and my momma didn't raise no quitter!!! The complications from being a fat chick are way more than the complications from this surgery.

Keep your head up and your eye on the prize!!!!

I can totally relate, I start my pre-op liquid diet tomorrow. I did Optifast years ago and loved the shakes but was able to make with diet soda. I'm worried about using Water, I know if you put a lid on your cup (think travel mug) what you can't smell usually doesn't taste as bad. Right now, I'm very positive about surgery because not to do it would be more detrimental to my health.

Keep your head up and look to the future!!! You can do this!!!

Angi- you will love our surgeon. He may seem cold or stiff but he's really a softie at heart. Please feel free to reach out to me if you need anything. I'm only 5 days post OP, so I'm certainly not an expert but I'll share what I know. Are you having your surgery at Riverside or Southside?

I truly do love our surgeon. I was referred to him by a few of my doctors, but also when I was researching info online, I watched the videos posted with him on the local news (watched each one too) I was encouraged and truly felt his integrity and caring showed through. He really seems genuine in his care for people in general as well how he cares about his patients. I will be having my surgery at Riverside (as I live on the westside and that is closer).

I am so excited and am counting down. Please, let's keep in touch, (if that is ok with you). This site is awesome with they way we can all connect, but it is especially great when you find someone who is a 'neighbor' (local buddy, so to speak)

I look forward to hearing your about your journey too. =)

Sincerely, Angela (aka Angi)

Just spoke to my dr. All solids are out. Ugh. No more egg whites:( I ate a piece of cheese and lunch meat not to long ago. I'm still starving. And I hit on the scale and haven't lost anything in my 3 days of misery.

I am 6 days post op. I can tell all of you the pre op diet does get better by day 3. You really need to clear your mind and follow through- it will shrink your liver, help you lose weight prior to surgery. Reason 3- you will be required to do it post op and I'm here to tell you, you will need will power then because you will be hungry at times on the full liquids. They say the restriction and being full doesn't start until mushy phase. So you have to get your head in the game cause it will be quite some time before your eating anything like an egg or creamed Soup etc. I have lost 28 pounds pre op diet/ 6 days post op. It's worth it. I'm just being honest so you can know what the reality is and fight for it!! Goodluck!!

All the feelings you mentioned I had them...fear...nerves..hunger...but I can honestly say that not a day goes by that I am not thankful for my sleeve. I did the Premier Protein from Sam's and did fine with those. Everybody is different with different tastes. Just stay on track and I promise you...you will never look back!!! Best to you!!

I had surgery in December...so I am 16 weeks out. I was allowed to start puree in hospital, and was able to move to soft foods within 3 weeks, and regular foods in 5 weeks.

Honestly, I was so nervous I changed my surgery from November to December. I had so many "Food funerals" that I gained 4-5 lbs....had to have one last bite of everything...

Then, after surgery, I realized that life isnt that changed! Yes, you have a few weeks on a liquid/puree diet. This is tough, but you have no choice...then, when you get back on real foods, you realize you can have many foods...but not much of them. It is a wonderful, wonderful tool. I eat maybe 4-5 oz, and I am stuffed...this is like 2-3 oz of Protein, and 1-2 oz of veggies, and I feel like I have had Thanksgiving dinner :). It is amazing, and awesome. I have had steak, popcorn (and my NUT encourages popcorn as a healthy snack after three months!), shrimp, salad, etc...all delicious. But you get full, and feel satisfied.

My diabetes has been almost reversed. My AIC has gone from 7.4 to 5.4 - normal. I am off insulin, BP meds, etc. God is Good!

Hello. Thanks for sharing this, I am encouraged with hearing about your diabetes reversal. I have many health issues and diabetes has been one of the major ones. I am on a lot of insulin, BP meds among other meds. I truly look forward to the turn around in my health and being able to truly live better than I have been able to.... and yes, God is Good! =)

I am two weeks out for my surgery and a nervous wreck. I have a 5 year old grandson that only has me to take care of him is why I am doing the surgery. What if something goes wrong and he loses me keeps going through my mind. I am scared really scared.

It's human nature to think like this these are legit fears But anything can happen at any time. We have to thin positive and push through.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
