Working out after surgery....

Recommended Posts

My question to the ones that have had the surgery already is.... How often do you workout and is it easy for you to lose the weight quicker after having the surgery compared to doing it on your own? I've been watching youtube videos and no one mentions working out just eating better and then the ups and downs after the surgery. I know there will be ups and downs. I eat healthy now and I workout 5-6 times a week so I'm used to it for after the surgery.

I work out most days 1-3 hours. I don't know why you wouldn't if your goal is to be healthier... But to each his own.

Of course you lose weight quicker with surgery, or else no one would be crazy enough to do it. Lol

For ME, exercise is an important part of life. If you already have it in your routine, you'll find it easier and easier to exercise as the lbs drop off. ;)

The exercise helps more for the toning of the skin that will be hanging off your body as you lose weight...

It makes for a healthier you all the way around... you don't have to do MAJOR exercising, but they do suggest walking every day ....

I had my surgery 1 month ago on March 11th. I just started walking 1-2 miles a day and am going to Water aerobics 2 x week. Love this class. I can already tell it is going to help tone loose skin.

Yes, Water aerobics is awesome. I just started it this week and love it. It's been kicking my butt but it's well worth it. Everyone in the class is really nice and supportive of one another. I figured starting this class along with my other workouts will really help with the loose skin. Get a jump start on it. I've never been so motivated about working out before but the water aerobics and swimming 66 laps is so much better on my back and joints right now. Plus you lose a lot more weight in the water then on the treadmill or other equipment. I have a lot of weight to lose. I've lost 201 on my own but I need the help and I know I will get it with this surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
