Is it normal to feel a little tight in the chest after surgery? It's not bad, just like a dull little ache. It's not when I breathe or anything. I'm still on the clear liquid stage, so I "think" it's too soon to feel restriction. I did take my Wellbutrin SR tablet this morning, it is maybe 1/4 inch across. I'm just hoping I didn't get it stuck or something.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Donna

My doc said not to take a pill any larger than a birth control pill. I used to take Wellbutrin SR and I remember them being about twice that size. May have to switch to a diff kind of Wellbutrin....'cause I don't think you can break up the SR's.

Yeah, I showed the Dr. my Wellbutrin, and he said it would be OK. I do feel better now though. I just talked to my cousin who also had the surgery, and she said this is a normal feeling, caused by the swelling/healing process. I thought maybe that was it, but you never know! LOL

I see you were banded on the 4th! How was it? Better or worse than expected? I wouldn't trade my experience for anything. We had a BLAST, and now I have 4 new band sisters. We walked the halls together during American Idol commercials, and the nurses gave us AWESOME back massages!! LOL

I was very tight in the chest for about a week after surgery. Every time I tried to lay down on my right side the tightness and pain was so bad that I couldn't breathe... although I also had a hernia repair at the same time, so that may have contributed. For the first few days I had to sleep sitting. It gets better, really!!

I felt heavy in the chest and the doc said this was completely normal, at my post op. He said people think your stomach should hurt but it's really in the esophogas area where they do the surgery (or just below there). He showed me where most of the action takes place during surgery, and it's just below your breastbone area. So the tightness is normal. Of course, if it starts radiating to the left and up your arm, it could be something more serious.

Yep, that's where it hurts right at the breastbone area. I just felt SO GOOD yesterday, I was a little suprised by the tightness today. It's not bad or anything, it's just a constant reminder that it's there! LOL

Thanks for the replies!

That is where I feel my new "fullness" after eating/drinking. I think I just have to get used to the new, feeling full, way up there, and on a little bit of food, instead of the lower, heavy, full feeling from before. I don't consider it painfull. Is your painfull?

No, it's not painful. It's almost like a real dull heartburn sensation, but not really LIKE heartburn. Hard to describe I guess. I see we were banded on the same day!! Are you still on Clear Liquids? I'm sick of broth, and juice!! They told me I could add drinkable yogurt yesterday, and that was a "little" better. Still doesn't compare to REAL food. LOL:hungry:

Are you eating and drinking v e r y slowly? If not, be sure you are. That could really help.

I had the same problem. I was banded on 3/29. I lasted for about five days when finally I spoke to the surgical nurse regarding PEPCID. All my paperwork given to me suggested I take PEPCID and it WAS given to me in the Hospital. I inquired about it with the discharge doc, but he unfortunately was NOT well informed and said if I wasn't taking it before the surgery then not to worry about it. :)

But then I got it straightened out and got on the PEPCID and that discomfort in the chest/esophagus went away and I feel GREAT!:clap2:

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
