Hi Casie83! I am just beginning the wls process (6 mo wait for insurance) but am very interested in having the sleeve surgery. You are the first person I've found on this forum that has had the sleeve done in Dothan. How are you doing? Did you decide to have the sleeve or was it recommended by the doctor? Thanks for any info you feel comfortable sharing!

Susan :)

Hi Susan!

I'm four days post op and feeling pretty good. I have some mild discomfort and I'm having trouble getting in my liquids and Protein but I'm trying my best. I made the choice to have the sleeve and did a ton of research before choosing a doctor/facility. My surgeon was Dr Marker and I couldn't be happier. He doesn't sugarcoat anything and he is honest about what to expect and reminds his patients that this is only a tool, we have to do the work to make the best of our sleeve. I'm down a total of 25lbs since I started this journey. I'm looking forward to being able to eat real real food and feel normal again. Feel free to ask me any questions.

So glad you're doing well, Casie! I have several friends who have had either lap band or gastric bypass surgery and have seen them all lose weight and then gain back some or all of it back. Two had to have the band removed because it caused problems and the other that had it can eat (or does eat!) as much as she did before the surgery! I had originally thought about the band, but I really think the sleeve is for me. I, too, have read and read and read everything I can find about all the types of wls. I'm so glad to hear that you think a lot of Dr. Marker - maybe he will be my surgeon. I go for my initial visit on Monday - think it's just and info, insurance, etc. visit, right?

Hope you're able to get all your liquids in and are feeling good!! :)

Yes the first visit they weigh you and see if you qualify and go over the two surgeries and give you the list of items required by their office. I go next week on Thursday to get my drain taken out and weigh in.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
