I was comfortable drinking Water normally within 10 days. Water is not going to hurt your stomach.

Are you drinking from a glass or a bottle? I always drink from a bottle and don't get any air coming in that I notice. I can pretty much slug it down.

It took me about 6 weeks before I could drink normal again. I loved to gulp my Water. I a, just beginning to do so. Ready for summer.

it took me about 5 or 6 weeks to drink normally. That sipping was for the birds, I couldn't get all my Water in with such little sips. Also, drinking plain water was difficult for me. I had to add SF kool aid or crystal lite or some other flavoring. I could drink Vitamin water flavored with stuff too. Plain water has a metallic taste now since surgery. I know, it must be in my head but regardless...I can't drink it plain.

I am almost 2 weeks out from surgery. I was doing the little sips at first until a few days post-op I gulped by accident and noticed that it didn't bother me in any way. I can drink anything totally normally now. Water, Protein Shakes, Soup. I got lucky I guess.

What Ive heard is that the surface tension of plain Water is what makes it sometimes uncomfortable to drink. I often add some lime or lemon juice, but any little something changes the Water enough to make it more comfortable for our tiny tummies.

After 6 weeks I could generally drink exactly the same as I had pre surgery (i have always been a big water drinker). Some days - randomly & with no explanation - my sleeve will be tighter and it is slightly uncomfortable. So I always start small to test it out.

I am 10 days out today and I only had to sip for a few days and I could then chug... Until today. Today it feels like my tummy is back to two days post op. I feel very lucky.

Plain Water is just to... hard for my stomach so I have to always add something to it. And I can't do cold anymore. So completely weird.

I am the same way... I can not drink plain Water & always have to add crystal lite to it & anything that is cold from the fridge & not room temperature bothers my stomach a lot so to avoid feeling uncomfortable I just stick with hot tea or room temp crystal lite water

I didn't want ro be adding sugar or artificial sweeteners all the time so I got flavored stevia drops. I like Sweet Leaf brand, I get them on Amazon about $10 a jar but you only need a drop or two so it lasts a really long time :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
