PCOS and lap band

Recommended Posts

I got pregnant twice, but lost both babies due to genetic issues.

I was not actively trying to conceive, and have since been fitted with an IUD.

Im sorry to hear of your losses:( I got married last year and we want to have kids but its been a challenge, docs say its combo of weight + PCOS :) I did however get my period this month twice, it was only for 3 days each time, sounds odd huh. At least its something:)

I've read lots of your entries on hear and you are such an inspiring person!! And I love the before and after pictures!!

I got banded on Jan. 27th & I also have PCOS as well, I chose to get off of metformin, but I have a Dr. That put me on spirlactolone to help with the effects of PCOS. I feel better on that med as well. I have currently lost 66 lbs. I walk 1-2 miles a day, & on weekends I walk 3 miles. Plus I walk alot at work. I am more active in general. Watching what I eat helps. I think increaseing your Protein is key too.

I have actually found that losing weight has helped with some of my PCOS symptoms. Or, maybe it is just because I am feeling so much better in general. My weight has come off a bit slower than others. Like another poster said, my doctor does attribute that in part to my PCOS.

Anyone w/ PCOS became pregnant after lapband? Or any changes in menstruation?

My menstrual cycles have definitely gotten more regular....(compared to before!). I'd say they are almost 100% "normal" now....

Thank you all for sharing you stories. I have PCOS and will be banded on 6/28/2007. I have been reading everything I can find on the internet. I was beginning to wonder if the band was going to work for me and if I should be doing gastric bypass instead. I am feeling more hopeful after reading this thread because I really prefer the lap-band. Good luck to everyone!

I have PCOS and had lapband surgery one year ago today. I have lost 53 lbs, and I am almost 2 months pregnant!!!!!!Suprise, suprise! I have been with the same man 19 years, I am 35 years old, and this is the first pregnancy ever for me. Obviously, the weight loss and low carb diet helped. Also I only have one ovary from a cyst episode. There is hope ladies!!!!!!

Congrats, Vintage!

I have PCOS as well, but I'll be honest. I haven't paid much attention to it the last couple of years before being banded. I was on Metformin, but after a year or two even that and birth control pills didn't keep my cycle regular. I just gave up and quit caring. I quit caring about a lot before being banded.

Anyway, since being banded my cycles are normal about 80% of the time. I don't take any medication. I was diagnosed as diabetic right before surgery, but I'm no longer testing as a diabetic. I don't know if that means I'm still a diabetic or not. I would ask my doc, but she's a friggin idiot and I just dumped her about a week ago.

Thanks for this thread - I have PCOS too. I'm very hopeful this will help break the vicious circle of the stored male hormone in the fat and help kickstart me on to a new lifestyle.

I want to have kids.

Thanks Vintage! That is so incouraging for us who are just starting on the Lap-band with PCOS. If you don't mind, can you share with us if it has helped in other areas with your PCOS (such as regulating periods, hair growth, thining hair, cysts, and etc.) I want to have kids someday but would also really like for some of the other PCOS problems to stop with the weight loss.

I am being banded tomorrow, Finally!! :(

Does anyone take the birth control pill yasmin? I'm suppose to start taking it this Sunday because of irregular bleeding but I'm scared because everytime I've taken birth control pills I've gained weight. My body got really out of whack right before surgery and then again last month so I had to take provera and then I'm suppose to start Yasmin. I was going to just let my body work it out as I loose weight (42 lbs since surgery) but bleeding for 6 weeks straight is NOT fun!!!

I have been taking Yasmin since last September, I did gain some weight back then but I do not attrribute it to the BC as there wer some other things going on at the time. I was band 1/31 and it has not effected my weight loss.

I tried Yasmin last year, and I think I gained about 15 pounds in 1 month - total bloating... It was horrible. I went back to Orthocyclen, and that bloating and 15 pounds reversed instantly.

I too have PCOS, and am going for my surgery consultation this Thursday, 8/2. I am scared and excited.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
