Optimal Time

Recommended Posts

I am going to be banded in Mexico in May. I will be at the hospital for two nights and their is an option to stay longer. I was wondering how long you guys spent in the hospital if their was no complications? I was thinking to extend the time for 2 days but wanted some opinions.

TIA!

I don't know if the procedures are any different where you're going, but I was out of surgery in 30 minutes and home before lunch time the same day, less than maybe 3 hours later. I'm not sure you'd want to travel back home that quickly, but if you've got a comfy hotel room to go to, and especially if you've got someone with you to help out, I'd see no reason for that long. (Save for any complications you may encounter, of course!) Good luck with your upcoming surgery!

Thanks Tara. That is true here it would only be done through day surgery. I know my coordinator said that if I choose to travel the next day I have to stop every hour so I don't developed a blood clot. We are about 5.5 hours from the location so stopping every hour isn't that much to add on to our trip. Thanks for reminding me about how its done here.

I was banded in Mexico. I stayed one day in the hospital and 1 day in a very nice hotel. The Doctors even came to visit me while I was in the hotel.

Take your time if you can, don't rush to get home if you don't have too. I live about 20 mins away but it takes 2 ½ hours to get back so I'm glad I waited and stayed at the hotel till I was feeling much better.

PM me if you would like more details.

Good Luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
