I started a thread, I'll find it and post it here back in July, actually it was a poll on this very thing. I had Dr. Sanchez and Dr. Zapata. They were wonderful. They've each done over 7000 surgeries now, less than 1 percent complications rate and never lost a patient. They don't use a clinic, they use a full scale hospital, with full trauma unit, Santa Agracias in Monterrey Mexico, the same place our dignitaries go if in need while there. It was 8500.00 for everything and fills for life. They included preop, hospital, doctors fees, private room with balcony overlooking mountains, food while you were there and all your transportation. They were doing it for 7500.00 next month I believe. 3 of us went the same day and done wonderful and I've sent 13 people since, none with any problems. Please pm me if you would like.

Dr. Rumbaut is suppose to be a good one to go to. I know Dr. Zapata is like a guru, absolutely considered one of the best. Dr. Ortiz is highly regarded. It was cheaper for me to go to TJ so I picked Bajanor clinic and not including airfare it was $6,800 (I have a mid-band and love it) I was picked up by Dr. Carlos and he definetly did not expect a tip for the ride from and to the airport in San Diego. The first night I stayed in the Clinic/Hospital so no cost. The second night at beautiful Hotel Lucerna (or something like that) but the room was included in my total package. I had to tip the guy who took my bag to my room ($3 is good on average), then each time I ordered room service a tip was needed ($3 or so), my room had a coffee pot in it and 2 bottled waters complimentary which I used to make my own hot tea at night since I brought tea bags with me (soothing after surgery.) I'd also bought a couple of bottles of Water when I got to the airport in San Diego and put them in my bag so I had them on hand too. I think I spent about $30 on Soup, Jello, beverages at the hotel. I didn't feel up to going shopping or out to do anything. I just watched TV (about 7 channels of English), slept, read, and all round took it easy.

I went to Dr Huacuz cost was 7500 w/o airfare. As for the money I took 300 and used very little. 10.00 for taxi, tip included 2 times so 5. each trip. 10. for extra juice at airport and 10. for airporter tip.

I was banded by Dr. Rumbaut in May 2004. He was great, and I haven't had one problem with my band. I haven't been active on this site for a couple of years, and I am blown away by the number of band erosions. Whew, I guess I've been blessed. I would think that this is THE major consideration here, lack of problems. Good Luck!

Hi There..!!

Glad to her about your experience.

Is it possible that he is charging now almots u$s11.000 for the lap band surgery..??

Appreciate your comments

Have a great day

Marcelo

I had my surgery done by Dr. Rumbaut on August 8, 2006. He is simply wonderful. I heard so many wonderful things about him prior to my surgery and he lived up to all of it.

I've been getting my fills done in NYC and the woman who does them can't speak any higher of him. When she looked at my floro she told me my band was placed perfectly - really comforting to hear!!

I'm down 50 pounds now and thrilled with my whole experience.

Dr. Rumbaut may be a thousand or two more compared to some other surgeons in Mexico but IMO he's worth it.

I was banded in Mexico two years ago. My research narrowed it down to Dr. Rumbaut or Dr. Ortiz. I ended up deciding on Ortiz only becasue he would be easier for me to travel to for after care. New York to San Diego, 15 minute drive to the Mexican border, 3 minute cab ride to his office.

I think I paid $8,500- hotel, tests and transportation included. I traveled by myself so I really didn't spend much money. Only for tips and the hotel restaurant.

I highly reccomend Dr. Ortiz and his team.

Good luck.

I used Dr. Ortiz and absolutely loved him and his staff. My surgery was Jan 29, 2007 and I am down 52 pounds. Kind of at a stand still right now, about time for a fill. I already feel like a new person though.

My wife and I were both banded by Dr. Rumbaut on April 12th of 2007. We were in the same situation where the local doctor was going to cost $19000 for one of us, and we were able to BOTH be banded for $19000 in Monterrey. They arranged averything, and delivered all that they promised. The hotel, transportation and hospital stay were all fine. I would have no reservation about recommending Dr. Rumbaut. Also, flights from Atlanta to Monterrey (we live in Chattanooga, so Atlanta is pretty close for us) are available for <$400 round trip, so it's not too expensive for the travel. We are going back next week, in fact, for our first fills. Anyway, I hope this is helpful, and that you find a doctor you are comfortable with. :)

I had Dr. Ortiz and it was an AWESOME experience. From the drivers (if you're really lucky, you'll have Mama Ortiz, the Dr's Mother, drive you around TJ), to the office staff, to all the doctors, to the nurses - everyone is WONDERFUL. The clinic is spotless, you're up and walking around within a couple of hours, the rooms are incredible and the hotel staff feels like they are going to throw their coats down for you when you walk in!

I went to TJ for the surgery and have been back 3 times for 2 fills and an unfill. 100% professional and even though it takes me 2 complete days, it's worth it for me to go there for fills.

I can't say enough good things about OCC :(

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
