Please don't judge me...

I have had my band since Dec 2012 and I love it. But since about Aug 2013 I slim more then I think I should. I don’t want to tell my doctor because I am embarrassed by it. I don’t think I’m too tight I just think I haven’t found the correct way to eat. I need to know what to do or if any one else has had this issue what they did.

No judging here..i recently had an adjustment that had me visiting the bathroom way too much.. i had to pull my big girl pants and ask the doc about it.. they where able to help me figure it out it was me that i eat too fast and too big a bite that i needed to slow WAY down.. that being said he still checked me out to make sure it wasn't the band. I STRONGLY suggest you visit your doc. i only last 2wks i have no idea how you could manage till now.

don't be embarrsed that's what the doc is there for to help you thorugh things like this. Please don't wait until something bad does happen. and let me know your ok?

I'm nearly 2.5 years out and I still slime maybe once a week. I've accepted this as a condition to being banded. I still work on eating slower and smaller but it's still a struggle.

Over the last year I've made some progress though. I once used to get stuck/slime 4-6 times a week, and now it's just 0-2 times a week. I've developed this sixth sense of recognizing that slight pressure in my pouch/esophagus when it's time to slow down/stop and allow food to pass through. No slime, no stuck episode.

Just keep working on it. You spent a lifetime developing bad eating habits, it may take a few years to mitigate/eliminate those bad habits.

I slim a few times a month. Eating too fast does it. It was gross. I walked around my house for about 10 minutes until I burped a few times and felt much better. My ribs got thrown out Monday night because of this and I was pissed. They tasted so good.

We all do it.

I do my best to cut my food up as if I was feeding a tiny toddler. I will then only put one piece of that meat on my fork and wait to swallow before taking another bite. If I try to trust myself saying that I'll chew it well, I never do. Definitely still a learning process.

Oh and don't be afraid to see your doc to make sure nothing else is wrong. If he's the type that will yell/get upset, and you're truly scared to see him; I'd suggest to find a new doctor that would be supportive and helpful. Doctors are critical in our little circle of support.

I second what everyone else said! You need to take smaller bites, chew chew chew, and slow way down! You have to remember that food is passing through your band as you eat it and when it gets backed up, thats when the sliming happens. You have to give it time and space to get through there!

yep we all have had sliming episodes.. After my last fill which was the largest I have had 1 cc. I had trouble because I wasn't used to having much restriction. I had to slow down and chew a lot. I am better now but for a few weeks it was rough.

Try going a few days on liquids too that helped me some. I still have to remind myself to eat slowly. Like TMF says it is a lifetime habit you are trying to break. I always ate fast and didn't chew much so it's harder for some than others.

Never be embarrassed to tell your doctor! I sometimes slime and pb, too, especially if my bite is too big, or it is something that I can't digest easily. Be careful to not get a slip.Have you been back recently? If not go, and tell what you are experiencing. Best wishes, Karen..aka.kll724

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
