March 2014 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Hi all, my surgery is on Tuesday 3/25. How are all the other March sleevers doing?

Hi. I had mine on March 1. I've generally tried to 'go with it' even though I felt quite emotional and flat for first week- "what have I done" came to mind a lot! Have since perked up and embraced the 'regime' and future. If I've been tired, I've rested, if I've fancied a different taste to Protein Drinks I've found things which do the job. Tonight my hub has cooked up some high Protein Soups for me as I've found soups sit better in my pouch than puréed food. I know that there's a long path ahead but there's also no going back now and I'm just trying to work with it and focus my energy on that. My biggest challenge is being the carer for 16 year old son who has SLD and PMLD. However, prayers have been answered and he has been fab - he's understood that mum can't do his care and has let dad do it without biting him! Result!

Jerseygrl09. Good luck. I'm a jersey girl also. I'm in the Trenton area. I had my sleeve done last week and I have had some downer moments this week. But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I am already down 10 pounds.

Hi all, my surgery is on Tuesday 3/25. How are all the other March sleevers doing?

I had mine on the same day Kim. No regrets..so far. I just saw about the hiccups because I will hiccup once or twice. Someone forgot to mention the burping too. I did alright in the hospital. I was still thirsty the day after surgery. Now that I am home, I'm walking up and down stairs, albeit slowly, but I am doing it. I'm experiencing some twinges of pain, and all of my abdomen is really sore. Like a too rough workout. For the 2nd day, I'd say Not bad. Is anybody else experiencing stomach rumbling?

I'm having the twinges and gurgling too....along with the burping and passing gas. Wishing I could move on to puréed foods. I've gotten all my Protein in for today think I'm doing good

Two days post op. And I keep asking myself why the hell I did this. I know in a few days to a few weeks I will be fine but right now? I'm absolutely miserable. The nausea is the worst. My medicine makes me dry heave. It's awful. I'm struggling trying to get my fluids down because all I wanna do is sleep. I hopefully get the drain taken out tomorrow maybe it will get easier then. I finally got to shower today and that was like running a marathon. I get chest pains that come and go. Hiccups are real bad too sometimes. I'm hoping that all of this is normal and that in a few days I'll be fine. I go back to school Tuesday. That's going to be fun.....not.

I know exactly how you feel!!! My husband said I was barely conscious and I was saying "god why did I do this!" Over and over .. I'm there with you! Everyone says it gets better so let's pray it does. Hang in there!!!

I was sliced and diced on the 25th.. So I'm pure liquid stage.

The entire procedure was easy breezy.. The worst part of the entire process by leaps and bounds was the darn liquid I had to swallow for the x-ray.

liquids are boring, but come on all, we were not forced into this. It's a choice we made. How can you 'regret' it because of a few lousy days. It's all about the REST OF OUR LIVES.

Today was the third day post op and I drove around town, I have a driver, like nothing ever happened to me. Sipping Water and grabbing a few ounces Soup here and there.

I hope it will not all come crashing down, because there is no way I'm consuming clear liquid Protein. I just can't..

I will catch up in a day or two when I can go full liquid.

I'm blessed with a good camel reserve.. I hope it will pull another few days..

5'11 male,started 295 down to 275

Hi i am new here. Had my surgery on 3/20. I'm having emotional issues (regret) and I am unable to get all my Protein in .. I have a pain in my collarbone when I swallow. I called the doc and was told it normal. I just want to know, "does it get better?!?"

It does get better and you should be getting better soon, around day 10 should be fine.

My stomach rumbling is gone now but I believe it is from your intestines being empty and the air pushing through them now, in a few days that will stop. Also my stomach rumbling came with some short sharp pains and those went away too. Good Luck!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to. And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed. I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
