Did anyone else not do a full 2 week preop diet?

Recommended Posts

I got the call Wednesday that I was approved and another call Friday to schedule. My preop stuff is a week away and the surgery a couple days after. Wow this is happening quickly. They told me that it is okay to not do the full 2 weeks of the diet but just to start the next day. Anyone else do this?

My doc only required Clear Liquids and bowel prep the day prior. Just had my sleeve on Wednesday. So far so good. Good luck!

My dr did not require preop diet if your BMI was below 40, mine was 36. However, I was not allowed to gain any weight or they would turn me away the day of surgery.

My surgery was scheduled and then less than a week left to be four days earlier. I only ended up doing the pre op diet for one and half weeks. I got really nervous about it but my surgeon reassured me it would be fine. Especially if I was sticking to it and not cheating. 5 days post op now and I am thankful that I didn't have to do the entire time!

Thanks everyone. This process is moving so quickly. One more question. I'm one of those people that doesn't like to take off work. How much time did you take?

I only had one week of pre-op diet. My BMI was a little over 40.

As to going back to work....I had the surgery on a Tuesday (Feb 25th), and went back to work the following Monday. I could only make it a half day on Monday, a full day on Tuesday, a half day on Wednesday. The main reason I didn't do all full days was because I was exhausted. When you don't eat a lot after major surgery, you need to baby yourself a little I think.

I had a very smooth surgery with no problems very little pain, no nausea or gas.

My (potential) doctor told me it wasn't necessary, although they do go by the two days pre-op. I'm thinking of putting myself on a one week liquid/protein pre-op diet regardless.

My doctor is requiring me to be on a three day pre-op liquid diet. He said it's because I'm a lower BMI case and my liver is not overly large. I think I will give myself a bit more time though. I want to kinda ease in to the pre-op realities.

My dr said 5 day pre op liquid diet. But a friend of mines just had surgery and did a 5 day liquid diet and after surgery told her that her liver hadnt shrunk enough. They did the surgery but it did cause her more pain. Im thinking of 1 full week liquids pre op

Just how liquid is liquid for the pre-op diet? I tend to eat pretty clean anyway (portion control is my problem), so would a thin, puréed lentil and vegetable Soup (sans potatoes) be acceptable? I don't have a date yet, so I don't know whether or not the doctor will require to me do liquids, but it seems like regardless, people tend to do better when they have done, so I may want to do a week of liquids just to be safe as well.

My surgeon had me do a 3-day clear liquids pre-op. I did low-carb(ish) on my own for about 10 days before, but I didn't go crazy. As for returning to work, I had my surgery on Mon 2/24 and was back at work full time the following Monday. I have a desk job, which helped. :)

Congrats on getting approved. My surgeon requires a 1 week liquid diet no small evening meal liquids only yikes. Dreading it but it's a requirement so I gotta do it.

I'm planning to take 3-4 days off then telework for the remainder of the 2 weeks I initially allotted as time off for recovery. Some people seem to recover enough to return to work rather quickly and others not so quickly. We r all different. My surgeon advised to plan for 2 weeks but could possibly return sooner all depends on how I'm feeling. Skinny vibes to u!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
