Nat, have you called your doctor and described what you're feeling? I had soreness for about a week and still feel a jab if I bend into the port at nine days out. My collarbone gas pain didn't go away until a couple of days ago. Please check with your doctor to make sure this is normal post-op pain you're having.

Hi Nat, I'm with you on medication feeling too strong -- I filled my prescription but didn't use it. That could be what is causing the nausea but listen to your doctor! I had a patch for a couple of days and did not have nausea, but narcotics can be a culprit for so many things, including nausea and Constipation (ask your doc about that, too, so you don't get uncomfortable in that department). If it's any comfort, a month from now this will all be the distant past. And meanwhile congratulations on taking this big step in choosing yourself and your healthy future. I am four months out+ and so happy!

I'm sorry you're not feeling well. You just had major surgery, and a bit of pain and discomfort is to be expected. I remember feeling terrible right after surgery, and my port site in particular took what seemed like forever to heal, but I promise it does get better! Also, if you're really concerned, you can always call and discuss things with your surgeon. Good luck!

I hate liquid pain medication. I don't care what kind it is it always makes me nauseous. you should be able to switch to tablet form and chew it or crush it. call your doctor for change of pain medication. there is medication for nausea as well. so my advice call the doctor and let him know what you are going through. if you want to try a few things these are some of the things recommended.

take pain medication or switch to Tylenol or ibuprophen

heating pad to gas pain areas

ice packs to incisional pain

make sure you don't get constipated. ask your doctor what he wants you to have. a lot of us use miralax

rest and drink warm liquids. teas are great get all your liquids in no matter what. broth, Water, crystal lite, tea, Jello,

and than walk some. not a lot. you are not ready for a exercise program. just around the room or your yard. get up every hour and move some. good luck and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Hang in there. I had mine 5 1/2 months ago. I had a rough recovery period. I didn't feel well and was on pain meds longer than I expected. I thought I would be like the people in TV saying they had it on a Friday and back to work Monday, not!!! It took me a full week to get to that point. Don't do like I did and compared myself to everyone else. Relax and let your body heal. Don't try and push yourself like I did, it only makes your recovery longer. You will get there :)

I'm 4 days out from getting my band. And I'm quite happy to take my pain and nausea meds! I had a single incision procedure so it hasn't been too bad, just sick of sleeping on my right side. I've been having some buildup of pain in the center of my chest right below my breasts. I'm assuming this is gas pain?

Also, the thought of putting anything in my stomach other than Water makes me feel a little queasy... My stomach has been growling a bit since yesterday but I'm not too sure what to do.

Sorry this is so long and a bit all over the place... I am on meds remember!

It took me a good two weeks to actually get over the pain. The ladies on this website helped me tremendously by advising me to sleep on a heating pad. I hope your pain goes away, because I know mine was terrible! Don't lose faith in the band, trust me the pain will subside, and you'll be so grateful that you went through it in the end.

I had my band placed 6 months ago on Sept. 27th I did have some healing issues and excess Fluid around the band and port site but all has seemed to resolve, they do still have a heck of a time accessing my port but are not overly concerned. I had my last fill a month ago which put me in the green zone and I have been doing great loosing 16lbs in that month. 4 days ago, I felt like I hit a brick wall, I became very nauseous, stomach discomfort, some vomiting, alot of indigestion and acid reflux. I couldn't eat anything without feeling the need to be sick and drinking started to become an issue. I called my surgeon today and they brought me in, at first they thought I may be too tight which I did not think was the case because I have had that before and this was a different feeling. To rule everything out they removed 2.5cc of fluid which was very painful,I felt a little better but still not right so they scheduled me for a Upper GI on Wednesday.Has anyone had anything similar happen, I am starting to feel very discouraged??

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
