How are you getting ready for your LAP BAND?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I decided to get the LAP BAND I have to prepare my stomach and mind for a big change after surgery. I started the gym today and ONLY did 25 min on bike and 10 on elliptical. I know it's not a lot but with my weight this should be expected. I'm doing lead and green, Protein shakes, for snacks: nuts and mozzarella sticks other words 20 gram carbs a day. My dietitian have me getting use to a new way of eating and to shrink my LIVER so my Dr. can see inside my stomach when I have surgery. There are days I fall off but I get back on. How you are on preparing for WLS ?

I hope to get my Band June or July depends on Insurance and DR schedule

THANKS!!!!!

Ivowtodoit, congrats on the decision and preparing! I was grateful that my pre-op diet was Clear Liquids for five days before surgery. It was extreme but it left no room for questions. I was determined to have the skinniest liver my surgeon ever saw! But months before that, I made a big big change in my eating habits by no eating in front of the tv. This was prompted by the psychologist threatening not to clear me for surgery if I was unwilling to make a lifestyle change. Boy, did that **** me off. But it made me determined. I still don't eat in front of the tv, and it no longer beckons me. Another thing I did was seek out support group meetings in addition to the one my own hospital has, which are once a month. I needed more. That helped me hear a variety of LapBand stories, good and bad, compliant and cheaters, and it drove home that this band is only going to help me if I follow the rules. I'm 9 days post-op today and I feel so good. I'm on liquids for five more weeks, but I believe I can do this and I will. I also just found MyFitnessPal.com, and it is an eye-opener for your intake and exercise. Try it. It becomes fun to track the input and exercise and take the blinders off. The first week post-op, I thought I was consuming so few calories, but after I started tracking and measuring, the truth was in front of my eyes. In my life I've been on a million diets, as have we all, and on Weight Watchers probably thirty times or more. I NEVER measured my food for more than a few days. I always knew better. Well, this time I'm following directions. And it's gonna make a difference! Keep us posted on your progress!

I made better eating decisions. I also practiced the 2week preop diet. I studied what I will live off of for the next 3 month and so forth. I also prepared my family, let them know that sometimes I may have weakness and I need to be helped...lol

I was all prepared for gastric bypass but came out of surgery with a lapband.i was filled with adhesions and scar tissue and didn't have enough small intestine to be able to stretch up. but preparing for surgery I made sure I was well informed about what was expected of me and what to expect. I got all my Protein powders and supplements. I had all the food I needed for after surgery and the stuff I needed to crush pills and measure food. if it wasn't for this site I don't know what I would have done. I was so lost about the band. I treated it like I had the gastric bypass. it was good though because my doctor uses the same supplements and stuff for all his surgeries. use this site throughout your journey. it will help you get through all the different phases we go through. good luck happy for you.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
